Fighting Cellulitis Of The Leg

Tuesday, September 04, 2007

I have had Cellulitis of my right leg for two weeks now. Because I'm allergic to Penecillin and Cipro, my doc has changed my antibiotics, but I have to go back for f/u to him because my leg is still not better even though I've remained sitting and lying down with my leg propped up most of the time. My hubby has been taking care of most of the cooking too. I am anxious to get well and start my walking program and a little Pilates again. Anyone who has had experience and has any information, I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me anything helpful.

I'm sorry to hear that you have cellulitis. I have had it 3 times in the past year and I know how much pain you are in. Unfortunately, it is something you can get again and again. I am surprised you are not on an intravenous drip. In Canada (where I'm from), you used to be admitted for cellulitis because it can turn so quickly into the flesh eating disease. Now, they immediately hook you up to an IV drip with antibiotics. They did this for me and I had a home care nurse for 2 weeks checking me daily. It is a very dangerous infection. I was treated immediately with Keflex. I suggest a cold compress on your leg to help bring the swelling down. Also, make sure it is elevated at night as well.

I hope you get better soon!
