You know, there are certain areas of my life that I let get out of control. This--of course!--leads to a domino effect, so other areas of life go down the drain.
My trap is busy-ness. I let myself get overscheduled, which leads to stress, which leads to not getting enough sleep, which leads to being tired ALL the time, which leads to not exercising, doing a less-than-stellar job at work, eating hoards of junk food...All because I say "yes" to too many commitments!
For instance, I'm working on my Master's Degree and working full time. I also have a part-time job. Over the summer, I took an elective course for my degree. The class was interesting and fun, but it met M/W/F from 7-10 p.m. That, of course, was after an 8-hour day at the office, and I often had to make stops for my part-time job in between or after. JEEZ! It was majorly stressful. I was tired constantly. I ate enough junk food to feed a third-world nation. I was out of control.
Well, the class is over now (Friday was the last day!), and I have so much more time to take care of myself! What this has made me realize is that the rest of my life--school, job, etc.--needs to take second place to my health. Before I commit to anything else, I will get in a visit to the gym. Before I agree to do something, I will make sure I'll still have plenty of time for sleep.
I AM IN CONTROL OF MY HEALTH! I am worth taking care of, and I love myself. It might be hard to say no sometimes, but it's worth it!
