Loved it and wanted to save it so I can read again:
For those of you who are just starting on your journey, I encourage you to give it your all...your whole-hearted, dedicated, focused, all. Don't ever beat yourself up for sliding backwards; it makes the progression forward that much sweeter.
Weight loss is about overcoming the obstacles in our mind. It is about our will, our strength and our choices. It is about loving ourselves enough to give our soul a body that can last our stay here.
Learn to appreciate your body and what it does for you...if you step back and think of how hard your heart, cells, lungs, muscles, neurons, and everything in between work together as a cohesive whole to keep us functioning, you experience almost a feeling of awe...you begin to want to take care of yourself...to give your body the best, so it can help you feel your best.
Allow yourself bad days...cherish the good ones. Feel everything. Experience the joy of getting on the scale and having it "go down." Throw yourself a pity-party every once in a while that includes a Kleenex, a good cry and Rocky Road ice cream (yes, I said that - just being human!).
Don't be afraid of "doing it badly." Just do it the best you know how...you'll figure it out along the way.
Don't be ashamed. DON'T EVER BE ASHAMED! BE PROUD that you are deciding to choose a better life for yourself.
Talk about losing weight...to anyone who will listen. Immerse yourself in friends...they will be what get you through it. When you get past the shame of being overweight, you find a freedom you've never known.
But more than anything - forgive yourself. FORGIVE yourself! Forget about your past choices, mistakes and shortcomings...this is about moving forward. Maya Angelou said "you did what you knew how to do, and when you knew better, you did better." Good for you for "doing better!"
If you give yourself a fair, honest shot, you will get "there..."
