"Why bother planning? You do it all the time, and it clearly isn't working. Learn from this and try something new."
HA! Perhaps I just needed a little time, and a brief conversation with a guy-friend who's also trying to drop a few pounds, to help me come up with a new plan.
And the plan is this: Move out of my parents house (as it's been nothing but a struggle to lose weight since I started living back home 8-9 months ago) and until then, feed myself. Family dinners are SUCH a waste of calories. Take tonight as an example: ALFREDO LASAGNA (as if lasagna couldn't get any higher in calories - OH let's swap the healthy tomato sauce for a salty, cream-based sauce!) and full-calorie, full-fat, gooey-with-dressing caesar salad. Right. Does anybody see a problem with having those two items constitute your healthy dinner? Umm..... I'm going to go with "yes".
I scraped most of the sauce off a tiny portion and ate that (at least they were whole-wheat noodles), then gave up and left the table to steam myself some broccoli and saute a zucchini (with non-stick spray, no oil... is that still "sauteing"?)
I used to do so well when I was eating big stirfries for dinner in my little apartment in the city. Dinner's a non-meal for me, I'd much rather have my calories earlier in the day, so family meals are a lose-lose situation for me. Not that I don't enjoy my parents' company (GOTTA MOVE OUT GOTTA MOVE OUT GOTTA MOVE OUT lol - no I do love them) but I usually get home later than they want to eat anyway, so it shouldn't be a kitchen complication.
So that's my new plan. It's definitely a new approach! As if I don't spend enough time on the internet in the evenings, now I need to devote some major time to CraigsList to find a perfect little apartment. I'm considering a basement suite so save some money, but as long as I can find something decent (secure, sunny, clean), I'll be happy. Someday I'll be able to afford a place of my own; until then, it's renting or here... and we know where it's going to be! I've been meaning to get off my butt and do the house-hunt (it's just so much effort) and now I have even more incentive.
ALSO: went for a great 7.4 km / 4.5 mi run around the seawall tonight. Lovely stuff! In my calorie range again, this is day 6! I didn't get all my waters in yesterday, so this is day 1 for water. Still - a great day overall. Now, off to pack a lunch and then to bed!
