I did something today that I always dreaded when I was a kid in gym class...I jogged!

Put me with any group of people and I was always the 'fat' one.

When I was younger, the only time I'd run/jog was at the end of the year in gym class when it was a requirement to run a mile. It was so painful and shaming and I hated it.

But, It is time for a change. I've lost over 70 pounds and I need to lose the remaining 70.

This morning I tied my shoes and did the very thing I always dreaded before: I jogged. Well, not very long but I did it on and off throughout my workout. It took me a little over 17 minutes to do it, but what matters to me is that I did it.

It probably didn't help my running time because I took a couple photos of the beautiful scenery by my house.

I'm still in my workout clothes, so I'm just going to go upstairs and workout on my elliptical.

The only real problem I have is that my sweatpants are too big.

Way to go! Keep up the good work!

I can totally relate. I always hated having to run the mile. We never worked at it to build up endurance. My gym teacher would just take us out to the track one day in May and time everybody. I could never run the full distance. I had to walk. A lot. And I felt like a failure.

Now that I substitute teach, I'm so happy to see many gym teachers working with students throughout the year to practice and build up endurance. The students don't always look any happier than I felt, but I think the approach is better. What a positive feeling to learn, at the end of the year, that you beat your starting time at the beginning of the school year.

Congrats, I so know the feeling!!! I've been going after my dream to be a runner for a while now. Started off with intervals....sometimes going by time, other times distance, and even just seeing how far/long I can run til my legs physically couldn't do it. I'm proud to say I can run a full mile nonstop :-) Just all of this to say you too can run! Set dreams and goals and TACKLE THEM! Way to go!!!

Great to see your blog featured in the Spark Mail.

Glad that you have released that 70# and won't be finding it again. I know you can release Five Pounds, another 14 times and get to that goal.

You start out slow, alternating jogging with walking. I love the early morning sun. Wear bright colors so the cars can see you well ahead of time. Have fun!

    Nice photos and good job!
That mile in gym class was ridiculous wasn't it. Lets take untrained kids out in the noonday sun and force them to run around a football field. What a joke. Instead of testing our physical fitness perhaps they should have spend the classes prior working up to the goal. That program was destined to make us feel unfit. Unless we happened to be genetically gifted.
Prior to this summer I thought I would never run an entire mile and the reason was the fact that I could never do it during the physical fitness tests in school.
every day that I am out there is gets a little easier.

all these things you shared make it even more precious and significant for you. I hope you'll learn to like it.

It's a good excuse to get new shoes, if you decide it's something to continue.

Congratulations'!

Yeaaa for you. I too started a jog with my walk yesterday. I got a bicyclye for my birthday. (actually its a tricycle). And I have been riding that. But decided to add a little walking in with it too. And after my first lap, I just started to jog a bit. HATE it. But will keep doing it. Its a love/hate kind of thing. lol

I am so proud of you! My dream is to get the last half of my weight off too, so I can jog. I'll have to make sure I'm really light when I do, so I don't hurt my lousy back and knees! :-) Congratulations in taking care of yourself and facing one of your challenges head on!! :-)
