After watching my oldest play soccer at her college, we drove out to pick up my packet, and my friends's, for tomorrow's 1/2 marathon. It was in the country with lots of beautiful hills. The ladies working the table were so friendly! This race is for Logan View School, which is very small. I love the thought that I am supporting a small school.
I'm not stressed about this "race" since I am walking it with a friend. This is her first and she had planned on running it, but several factors prevent her from doing so. 1) She's not in "shape" enough. 2) She has a bulging disk in her back. 3) Her doctor said that he'd rather her not run.
4) She is pregnant after being told she'll never have children.
All great reasons to just go out and help a friend accomplish a goal that she wants to obtain. It will still be a nice workout with all the hills, but it will be fun and full of good conversation. (I secretly hope she'll walk a little closer to my walking pace, but I also realize that I walk MUCH faster than most when I'm just going from A to B, let alone when I power walk.)
I am ready to set aside my competitiveness and support a friend that I call my soul sister. Here's to a great long walk!
