Where I am, where I've been and where I'm going.....

It's been a while since I posted a blog. I've been on sparkpeople nearly 14 months and I'm down 14 pounds. That's 1 pound a month.....LOL. I didn't lose a pound a month actually, I have gone up and down and all around. In the process I have learned a lot.

When I started on sparkpeople I had a lot of crazy ideas.

I've also compared myself to others a lot...

felt sorry for myself....

and felt like it was just going to be too hard.

Ultimately, I've figured out that I don't just want to lose weight, I want to be healthy. It's not about deprivation, but moderation. I've started to move more, eat less and take it a day at a time. I've got a feeling that the next 14 months are going to bring about even more changes.

Well said - it is about getting healthy, not just the number on the scale. Also, it is not time-based, it is a journey! Best of luck on yours!

You said it all!!!!! I felt the same way before my husband and I started SP. Then we decided we needed to get healthier not just for our self, but for each other. We want to be able to see our grandchildren grow up and get married. I want to see what it feels like to be a great-grandma one day. Only God knows what is in store for each one of us, but I was killing myself. We are starting a new journey in our life and we are enjoying the benefits. HANG IN THERE, it is very rewarding. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I just started spark people in August. You put into words things that I have thought over the last month. I think that everyone who starts this journey thinks or does at least 1- 3 of these things at first.

Diets make us loose common sense and make us cra-cra.
Then we learn to ditch the diet and work toward our best health and things start to fit into place.

All those quotes could be me saying them.

I need to learn patience with myself. I have it with others. Why not myself? I'll have to learn that.

    Fun stuff!

Hey, but 14 lbs. is 56 sticks of butter! That's how I look at it! The next time you are grocery shopping, put 14 boxes (4 sticks per box) of butter in your cart and take a good look at it. 14 lbs. is something (and it's sure better than being up 14 lbs.)! Now I just wish I could choose which body part I could lose 56 sticks of butter from -- LOL!

emoticon for sharing such a emoticon blog! The things you pointed out are so true! I have been on this journey for a little over 4 years now and I feel great, but there are moments where we just can't be perfect all the time! We can be the best we can be, and that is all we need to be! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticon I rode the lose-gain-lose-gain roller coaster for years. It wasn't until I opened my mind, embraced the journey, and began learning that I started to lose and maintain. I had to start looking st every setback as a lesson and stop beating myself upfor not being perfect.

Sounds like you learn a lot more quckly than I did! You are going to have an emoticon year!

You have summed it up in a nutshell. I "fell" off the wagon about 4 years ago- - started smoking again - - quit again( this time 2 1/2 years and counting ) Gained 50 - 60 lbs and finally got a wake up call- - time to start over again and stick to it so far I have lost 29lbs and have 70 to go. I will do it! !! !!!
