August 26, 2014 WISE WITH MONEY
So many people spend every penny they receive without thinking about the future. Others even spend more than they have by borrowing money which quickly creates even bigger money problems. Having self-control in our finances means we know where our money is going. Our money is working for us rather than us working for it. If we want to be wise with money, we should get into God’s word and learn from Him. And, most importantly, give Him the firsts of all we have. Then we will create new financial habits that will make us wise with money.
Proverbs 21:20 “The wise have wealth and luxury, but fools spend whatever they get.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we are so weak when it comes to money. When we get money, we spend it too quickly. We sometimes even spend it before we make it. Help us to remember we really only need a few things in life to survive – our basic needs. Help us not to be greedy but to be sure to give You back a portion of what we make and to give to others. Help us to get our finances under control and be obedient to You with our money. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
We really don’t need all the things we have. All we need is God.
Those who spend money before they make it will never have any money for when they need it.
Borrowing money puts us in debt and makes us slaves to the people we owe the money to.
It’s a shame to be working only to pay on debt that we never should have created in the first place.
Money is only required to buy our basic needs in life. How we spend the rest of it tells us where our treasure really lies.
Matthew 6:21 “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” (NLT)
Focus: Look at your finances today and ask God to help you get them under control according to His will.
