An earthquake and a birthday party.

Sunday, August 24, 2014

This morning I was awakened around 6am from the beep on my cell phone informing me that i had received a text. It was from my daughter-in-law back in New York who knew about the earthquake in Napa 60 miles north of us - and she wanted to be sure we were all okay.
Very sweet of her!

(What my DIL texted was, "Please check in when you get this." My husband and I had not seen the news yet, and we said to ourselves - "She's PREGNANT! and she wants to make an announcement." )

Well, no, that was not it. There had been an earthquake at 3:30am and we had slept through it.

Later in the day was the official birthday party for my little granddaughter, held in a nearby neighborhood park. There were loads of kids, with their parents and siblings. The kids all played on the playground slides and swings and jungle gym, took some whacks at a pinata, and got their faces painted. There were bowls of fresh fruit and goldfish, pizza, and then, of course, birthday cake. I had a little of everything.

Right now, at 4:30pm we are back in the hotel, relaxing. I have decided not to eat any more today because I want to stay within the limits.
So, as I have done once or twice before, I have officially called this day FINISHED. The calories are gone, and so the day is over.

The next meal I will have is breakfast tomorrow.

Tomorrow, Monday, we will spend some time during the day with our grandkids and our son, then we will catch the red-eye back to New York.

Happy Birthday emoticon to your beautiful granddaughter. You did what I am doing -- enjoying special occasions but making up for it before or after by cutting off the inward bound energy when I've clearly had enough.

You continue to rock this vacation!

Awwwww, happy birthday to your grandie. Glad you had a good time!

You slept through an earthquake! That made me smile a little. I remember coming home from hospital after having worked the midnight shift. It was wicked bad weather and by the time I got home, there were tornadoes in the area. It appeared there was one right over us! I yelled @ my Mom to get up, we had to go to the basement. She just replied, "Why do I have to go to the basement?" Meantime there was all sorts of debris whipping past the bedroom window. The tornado didn't do damage to us, but the house in back of us had the entire roof lifted off!

Glad you're safe.
