An earthquake and a birthday party.
Sunday, August 24, 2014
This morning I was awakened around 6am from the beep on my cell phone informing me that i had received a text. It was from my daughter-in-law back in New York who knew about the earthquake in Napa 60 miles north of us - and she wanted to be sure we were all okay.
Very sweet of her!
(What my DIL texted was, "Please check in when you get this." My husband and I had not seen the news yet, and we said to ourselves - "She's PREGNANT! and she wants to make an announcement." )
Well, no, that was not it. There had been an earthquake at 3:30am and we had slept through it.
Later in the day was the official birthday party for my little granddaughter, held in a nearby neighborhood park. There were loads of kids, with their parents and siblings. The kids all played on the playground slides and swings and jungle gym, took some whacks at a pinata, and got their faces painted. There were bowls of fresh fruit and goldfish, pizza, and then, of course, birthday cake. I had a little of everything.
Right now, at 4:30pm we are back in the hotel, relaxing. I have decided not to eat any more today because I want to stay within the limits.
So, as I have done once or twice before, I have officially called this day FINISHED. The calories are gone, and so the day is over.
The next meal I will have is breakfast tomorrow.
Tomorrow, Monday, we will spend some time during the day with our grandkids and our son, then we will catch the red-eye back to New York.
