Sunday and Gratitude

Sunday, August 24, 2014

i am grateful for arriving home unscathed from the loonies on the expressways in Michigan! I am grateful for returning home with more money than I thought I would.

Went to workplace to get my schedule for this coming week.. did not feel any sadness for being gone a week or more.. The weather is even more humid and cloying than when we arrived home. 94% humidity,, The air is so heavy, it looks like fog, but is just the humidity.. hard to breathe,, Praising God for allowing me to get central A/C.

One little incident we had in Munising: We were actually in town driving on the side of the mountain and I looked ahead and about ten feet from my bumper, was a doe. She stopped, stared at me..(When you are raised in the country or anywhere near Northern Michigan, you learn that if you see ONE deer, there are ALWAYS more behind them..A doe is always followed by at least one fawn from early spring through late summer,, she is followed by at least ONE buck after that)of course I stopped about five feet from her. She jumped into the grass on the opposite side of the street.
A couple of trunk-slammers(tourists) behind me began beeping their horns at me to move my car. I just sat there waiting,,, five seconds later a fawn jumped out in front of my car.. then across to its' mom after she signaled it.. dumb tourists..

This was about twenty yards from Lake Superior right in town!! I have been going all through the U.P for the past 60 years, so am used to it,, but I am trying to have more patience for tourists.. That is how some of the orphaned black bear cubs end up on the side of the road, from ignorant tourists that hit the mom and leave the baby..

One weird thing DD saw, was an egret standing out in the middle of a cornfield near Germfask, a Mennonite community we passed through .. They are almost always in pairs and always near water of some sort.. This was at least twenty miles from a even a pond!!

So glad that you stopped for the doe and her fawn. People always seem to be in a hurry, even when on holiday. Let them toot their horns!!

People can be so rude! Thank you for stopping for them. I always look for more too, when I see one. I never thought about a whole little family crossing. How cute. If those people had been in front of you..bet they would have hit one of them. Again...thank you!

You did what you knew to be right and you saved a tiny life. Let the tourists toot their little horns and steam up the windows. They will thank you for it later when their car isn't totalled and a bucks rack is not sticking threateningly through their windshield.

We have the same kinds of incidents here in NH...in the country. Wow an egret! I didn't know they were that far north. Look forward to your other stories and pix.

I hear you on the deer! I see quite a few on the road near my place, even though I live within the city limits, I am not far from the wooded areas.

Saved yourself an accident and a car. If you hadn't stopped and hit it, it is almost a sure guarantee the car behind you would've hit you too.
