It's Good to Fail

Saturday, August 23, 2014

I failed. My time stunk, I was tired and hot. My legs cramped up and forced me to walk. My race was a failure. I failed.

"Failure is not an option" is a quote from the Apollo 13 movie. Supposedly spoken by flight director, Gene Krantz. I don't like this quote. I believe failure is imperative.

You learn from failure, you will find a better way. Your victory is much sweeter once you continue past failure and succeed.

When you fail, you are given an opportunity to reassess and learn from it. No one is immune to failure. Embrace it, learn from it, get tough and forge ahead.

It is said that Edison attempted 1,000 times to invent the light bulb. Apparently, he wasn't deterred in his quest for victory. He forged on to victory.

Never give up. Never quit. Forge ahead.

Ummmmm I don't call what you accomplished a failure at all! Interesting that the one who is the most hard on ourselves is often ourselves!

“Never let the fear of striking out get in your way.” Babe Ruth

I would not be who I am today had I not failed many times. It still hurts, but the older I get, the more accepting I am to learn from my failures.

Kudos to you. You are stronger today than you were yesterday.

obvious you didn't fail - you just didn't perform to your desire. It is tough here in Florida. That is why after 15 years of running/racing we don't do that during the summer months.

That is a great blog. You did not fail. You just learned what you need to do next time to avoid those leg cramps. I am sorry that happened but your positive spirit will keep you going. Good job on turning to walking!

No...you were not successful but that does not equal failure. Failure is giving up, throwing in the towel and quitting. You did none of these things; you did not fail by any stretch of the imagination!

You said it right in your last sentence.
I think to never try is being a failure and from what I can see you are always out there, so no, you are NOT a failure

If you failed at anything, it was spacing your contests with enough rest in between, but we all do that from time to time. I'm registered for the Empire State Marathon on Oct. 18th and the Marine Corps Marathon on the 25th. If I come in dead last in Virginia, I still won't consider it a failure. But I will revise my unrealistic scheduling. "Failures" are only continuing education.

Everybody has a bad day, but you already know that. You "failed" to reach the goal you set for yourself, but you didn't "fail." You took the smarter option and walked.

I'm assuming that you got to the finish line, successfully, upright and ahead of the "sag wagon" and not in it. Those my DH's goals LOL.

I think everyone's definition of failure is different too.
You are a winner in my book emoticon because you participated and did what you could at the time.
Great blog!
