No Treadmill Today!

Thursday, August 21, 2014

I TOTALLY SUCK! No one, EVER, has accused me of being graceful!

On Saturday I was on a 10-foot ladder cleaning the cobwebs/wasps nests on our front porch with a broom...when a GIGANTIC spider came flying out of its web and down the broom toward me!

I HATE emoticon , so did what any normal person would do -- I jerked back. Then the ladder started tottering, and down I fell. On the concrete porch. Flat on my back. ON TOP of the metal broom handle.

OH MAN!

I thought I was OK. I cut my leg and arm pretty badly, but they'll heal. I walked 4.5 miles on Sunday (very slowly) and did bike class on Monday. But on Tuesday & Wednesday, I was a mess. SORE. BRUISED.

Yesterday I did two slow miles on my brand new treadmill. LOVING the treadmill and sooo sorry I couldn't crank it up and see what that baby could do! But by the evening even doing two slow miles I felt like I'd been run over by a Mack truck. My ribs were killing me. My glute was sore.

So today -- I went to the doctor today just to make sure I didn't crack any ribs.

Luckily, the answer is NO. Just bruising all over with strained muscles. Worth going to know for sure. Ibuprophen, a heating pad, and rest is the ticket. She thought it would be two weeks until I was able to do fitness center classes.

SOO...my Whole30 was a bust, I can't even get on my new treadmill...did you ever feel like the Universe was conspiring against you???

PS - MY TAKEWAY: I am now one of those "old people" who does stupid stuff they shouldn't be doing! From now on I'm NOT getting on a ladder unless I have someone else there to hold it. Live and learn, live and learn...

So sorry to hear this! And glad to hear you're not planning on doing that kind of thing any more. I stopped awhile ago when I found myself teetering on a ladder cleaning my gutters a couple years ago. I thought about what could happen and decided it wasn't worth it. I am glad to hear you're starting to feel better!

First let's just day I am wishing you a speedy recovery. Perhaps you needed a bit of down time, I know not your style.
You are definitely NOT one of those "old people" who does stupid stuff. That spider thingy could have happened to anyone. Sometimes stuff just happens, so take a slow deep breath, and say "Oh, well." And think of the things you CAN do while you heal.

I'm glad you didn't hurt yourself worse! I think everyone, old and young, shouldn't be on a ladder alone! Heal quickly!

Oh no! I'm glad you weren't hurt worse. I really sympathize and understand.

I ended up needing rehab twice. Once I tripped over a potted plant looking for the Cheesecake Factory and once I tripped on a step while checking out the dessert buffet in the distance.
At least you can blame it on a scary spider while doing something useful. I had only my overactive sweet tooth to blame

I am glad you did not break anything. Ladder falls can be dangerous. Take care of yourself and give yourself plenty of time to heal. Ladders scare me and I think it is a good idea to have someone with you!

So glad you didn't break a bone or crack your skull wide open!
See? It could have been much worse.

It's amazing you didn't get hurt more badly -- a real testimony to how good in shape you are and/or how lucky you are to sustain a fall like that with no broken bones. The way the female hip is connected to the ankle makes us pretty shaky on ladders anyway but the Sudden Appearance of Spider is hard to counteract. Best wishes for quick healing. I don't think the Universe is conspiring against you, but I think you might be giving yourself a message to slow down. Your doctor concurs!

Oh no! That's a scary accident! I'm relieved you didn't break anything or get any worse injured than you did! And you manage some humor in all this, too! Cripes! I wouldn't!

Make sure to take it easy for the two weeks. If you're like me, you'll find you lose hardly anything after two weeks' rest, so try to spoil yourself......kay? emoticon

Glad you are just sore with no broken bones. I broke my middle finger on my left hand tripping on shoes. Getting older sure is a hummed. Better than the cure for old age.

Oh no!!! emoticon Glad you are all right! Cleaning is just so over-rated. LOL

Take it easy and don't push it. The treadmill will still be there. We need a product review when you are back. emoticon

That sounds pretty darn scary. So glad you did not break anything! Just take it slow, recover, you know you'll be back at your exercise again as soon as it's possible . . that's who you are!! (We all do stuff like that, and at every age . . . )
