OK... Here is the what's up with Julia... Almost one month since my last post!
The last week of July was super crazy at work because we packed everything and moved... to a temporary location... and then I went away on leave... (10 days to be precise, not enough!)... and then we moved again to our permanent school. Exciting but the job and projects did not stop during that time (so no need to say that coming back from time off felt overwhelming and it is still very stressful). Here is a look at my new place...
I like it... It is spacious (I guess as the Deputy Commandant this is the benefit of added responsibilities!!!) and I have a window; natural light - a real bonus!
Having said this, summer is almost over... it is back to school prep time, which means I am about to enter a new cycle of courses to deliver. Not sure I am ready but I know I will find what it need to make it happen. Enough about work, now the good stuff...
Summer!!! So many things I wanted to share... and I will
One of the things that motivated me and helped me to get through last year challenges was my running and yoga. Being active and having a goal in mind was a motivator and when motivation was lacking, I had a fantastic support group of Sparkfriends... Reading blogs/posts, exchanging goodies are activities that feed me... and encouragements/advices are often bringing a smile to my day. Well, speaking of moving, my Sparkfriend SWEETNEEY posted a quote before I went on my mini get-away... and it spoke back to me when I saw it in one of the boutique... (This picture is for you... Thanks!)
So here is how and how much I have been moving to keep my balance:
July: 310k / 194 miles for the month...
Total for 2014 as of 31 July: 1600k / 1000 miles! (Compare to last year, I am so much better... 2013 July Year stats were: 1265k/790 miles)
By the way - A big
goes to Carol (CONFIDENTLY_FIT) for her distance tracking - she is 400 miles to her year goal - standing at 2000 miles!!!
My miles included cycling and some nice walk along the lake...
... golfing with Jeff (carrying clubs of course)... I am not a good golfer but I am improving - I am now able to send my ball over the pond now (I posted a picture of it a few blogs back). The fun part of golfing is also the social... At the golf club on base, we attended the "Nine & Dine" at the end of the month. We had a very good time and that was the start of my non tracking food streak (good but not so good!!!! I am at plus 10 lbs now... not too worried, I know I will drop it...)
*the bird is a baby wood picker that is just standing around the ninth ... he is getting bigger and stronger!
The dinner menu was served in honor of Phil Mickerson... so we had a Ceasar Salad, Lobster and Cheese Ravioli in a creamy lobster tomato sauce, garlic bread and tiramisu cake... (and red wine!) I am sure that you understand why I did not track this! (The food story will be continued but that is a completely different chapter)
I also logged some running but I am really behind my training plan schedule for the Half marathon coming in one month! HAAAA!!!! Don't panic, just set more realistic goals.
I will complete this 13.1 Miles - Ottawa Army Run Half Marathon - 21 September. I am not going for a PB. I am recovering. My long term goal is to do Boston - April 2015 (I made the qualifying time...), need to be selected and not get injured until then so I can still run! BTW - My goal is in the News paper!!! and My picture too!!!
(second from the left - in case you don't recognize me!!!) and here is a link for the paper:
Oh... Good news, I found my garmin watch back! ... and running without a watch is not so bad after all... I took a different path that was marked to better gage my distance and I enjoyed looking around. (even collected a lucky golf ball and took a runfie! (yeah - that is a "new" term that I just learn - it is an other form of selfie ...
Here is my interpretation:
(the two best sides of me at work!)
(the beautiful morning selfie smiles of my sister/top left and daughter Emma/top right; the not so selfie of my mom, repenting because she did not share a morning selfie - that was our picture theme of the day - bottom left; and, a "can't do a selfie - don't you see I am busy having a great dinner!" of my daughter Maggie bottom left!)
2) Runfie: when you like running and you don't mind your running look, you share a runfie!!!
Speaking of runners and picture... I met Konrad!!!
He did a funny picture with this one that I found to be cute, but I guess we will have to ask him... I don't have a copy and I am not sure under what category it would be classified ;0) Thanks to him, I did complete my 5k Race (virtual because I did not signed to a formal one and Konrad agreed to the distance "with" me)... I did it in 21 min 50 sec.
goes to Konrad!!! and
for his PB... Did you say you did it in 21 min 18 sec!!!
Finally, if I want to be able to keep moving, I have to bank some
Sparkfriends, I am trying... My Fitbit is a great tools for getting me up my chair and moving and it is also a good way for me to keep my sleeping into perspective.
I have my low (like you can see in my graph) but I am making progress.
My average for last week is over 5 hours/night... I am hoping to keep it that way.
Since I have not posted for a good 4 weeks... I have a lot more to blog but I will keep the rest for later... Just as a personal reminder, here is what's on my mind:
1) Food for Energy (I am slowly recovering for my non tracking streak and I feel like a junkie having withdrawal... can food do that to you !?! Anyway, my next one promise because I need some feedback and suggestions!
2) May Marathon Recap - I know, I am late!
3) I still have not posted a blog (and these were on my mind for July!!!) about:
- Last January Trip to Cuba with the family (I guess I had the winter blues ... )
- Trip to Columbus and Dayton
- Trip to Hawaii
... and now Summer vacations:
- Trip to Traverse City/ Glen Arbor (Michigan)
- Stop in Frankenmuth (MI)
- Camping and family time in Compton (Quebec)
4) Yoga inspiration... and goals
5) Little beauties.
6) Running route...
