Jam-Packed Day of Play!

Monday, August 18, 2014

There were two rides scheduled this past weekend, BOTH for upper Catskill region. I passed on the Saturday ride through the Cannonsville Reservoir...HATED to, just too much to do to give up both days. 21 bike club members showed up for that ride.

Instead I chose the challenge of the Pepacton Reservoir ride...a 50 mile loop through some mighty challenging hills. Mr. No-Walk managed to climb 'em all on his bike! :-) For some reason all that climbing must've been too intimidating for the other members and there were only two of us willing to take on this challenge...but we did good! I couldn't believe, upon looking back up after swooping down, the HEIGHTS of some of those mountains we climbed!

Later that night after noodling northward through Walton and Oneonta I arrived in Cooperstown to join with some friends in soaking up the humble masters of Brasilian music, Trio Da Paz!

We were so EXTRAORDINARILY fortunate upon arriving to find seats for the three of us in the very first row, right square in front of the band and reveled in their masterful sounds through the night. If I extended my leg I could touch the stage.

THAT'S how close we were!

Check it out here:

Life just doesn't deal up so much good stuff in one day very often...whew!

Totally awesome ride! The pictures and movie image certainly showed the great area you were riding in.

But ok .. the cut sheet ... that first MOUNTAIN had some pretty freakin steep grades dude. My lungs would have been near bursting I am sure. That last mile up ... between 5% - 9% grade with no flats?!?!? Crazy!

Now the 2nd uphill was not as bad ... NOT. I mean ok, the grades weren't as bad ... still steep though. And ... it was at mile 30!!!

I bow down to you sir. Way to go.

Oof, I've been to the upper Catskills--driving, mind you--and it's no easy stretch of road. Kudos for getting the bike and your hiney up those mountains together. Makes me sweat just thinking about it, lol.
