Gatorade Prime Energy Chews - Fruit Punch

Monday, August 11, 2014

My guy has been nursing a muscle injury for the last couple of weeks, so for my long run this weekend, I figured that I would sleep in and then run the loop of his neighborhood a couple of times for around 9 miles while he rode his bike and kept me company. No drive, and I wanted to run in the light as it's semi-rural road with intermittent lighting and black bear county. I started later at 7am. It was hot and since I wasn't going so far, I didn't modulate my pace as much. I made it two loops and then it hit me.

Chills. In near 90 degree heat. For me, a bad sign of heat sickness, so I wrapped up mile six, went back to his place and sucked down some Powerade. Felt fine, but glad that I listened to my body.

Anyway, this week I tried the Gatorade Prime Energy Chews.

Flavor - Tasty. Sweet, but not that awful Gatorade taste that I love.

Stomachability - No Issues. Ate one at every mile when I realized this would be a shorter run.

Eatability - Not as big as some of the others that I have tried, but oh-so-sticky on my teeth. They look big, but they are skinny - a little bigger than a Starburst.

Results - No cramps during the run, in spite of the heat symptoms, so I'm not disappointed. Energy was lagging, but I think that was more due to the sun that was on the back side of the loop (oh so roasting) than anything, but I'll have to give these a full test during normal conditions to get a real feel for them.

Conclusion - I would probably use these again. They are one of the lower calorie fuels, so I probably would have to use two for each longer run. The stickiness while eating was a pain in the hiney, though.

Next week, I hope to be back on the trail for a normal long run.

I've actually tried these! Not while out running, but before. I can't imagine trying to eat them while running.

I use them on occasion but make sure I have water to swhistle around my mouth after I eat them. That takes care of the stickies. I have had no other issues with them at all. My fav is the strawberry. I see that you took them out of the pack before running. I do that also, they are a bugger to get open.
Happy Running!

Stickiness is a deal breaker for me--although it does give me something to think about (and try to get off my teeth) while I'm out running the miles. ;-)
