Whole30, Day 1

I don't usually follow diet plans because I can't stick with them. I prefer a variety of foods. But I decided to try Whole30 for a couple of reasons: some Sparkfriends have had good results with it, and I can't seem to lose any more weight doing what I'm doing. Time to shake things up!

Whole30 is just a 30-day commitment to eat whole foods, nothing processed or artificial. Here's basically what you CAN'T have:

*sugar or any type of sweetener, real or artificial
* wheat, grains, legumes, soy in any form
* dairy of any kind
* any product that contains any of the above

Yesterday was my first day and it went really well. I had absolutely NO cravings and was not hungry between meals or after dinner, which is amazing for me.

This was my menu:

Breakfast - 2 egg omelet with spinach, mushrooms, onion. 1 cup watermelon

Lunch - 2 tbl. almond butter on celery, 2 cups watermelon, a few baby carrots

Dinner - side salad with olive oil and balsamic vinegar (yuck), 4oz. Laura's lean beef patty wrapped in lettuce with tomato, pickle, onion and mustard; 2-3 cups yellow squash cooked with onion in olive oil, a few homemade sweet potato fries.

I actually MADE compliant mayonnaise yesterday, it was a SNAP! I will use it today in tuna salad for lunch.

I eat a lot of salads but am not a fan of oil-and-vinegar dressing, so I will make an Avocado Ranch dressing today. My last challenge will be to make ketchup. I love the stuff but it is LOADED with sugar or corn syrup.

The entire Whole30 will be an interesting experiment because it is the antithesis of my normal diet, which is heavy on dairy, reduced-fat/no fat processed foods, and includes limited animal protein.

I'm going to give it a whirl!
