Give Blood!

Friday, August 08, 2014

It didn't take long for the Red Cross to find me again now that we are back from our trip! I am happy to give blood and do it faithfully every 56 days when we are home. Today I have an appointment at 11:30.

Blood donations are always down in the summer and the need is always up. I have O positive blood which is the most common blood type, and Type O is considered a universal donor, so I'm especially popular at the blood bank! emoticon

So if you can, consider donating blood. It is easy and usually takes about an hour.

Here's the link to make an appointment!

Thanks for the reminder, I will make sure to attempt the next time I am back home! I am B-, the 2nd most rare type, and they always need me. Unfortunately my iron levels keep being just a bit too low so I have not been a successful donor the last few attempts, even by eating iron rich foods before in preparation. I think it is just my normal because my levels are not so low that it is a health concern (according to my doc) but just a hair under the Red Cross' requirements.

I love this! Someone was once scornful about my blood type, "it's so common...." As if he'd earned a distinction by having a type more rare. I've never been turned down for being too common, though. I just give.

Good for you for donating :)
I'm a regular now..whenever the moble unit comes to town I'm there. Last month when I was there, they said they are at a 5 year low!!! It's sad

Thanks for donating blood: I've needed transfusions, I did donate regularly for so long as my blood was deemed acceptable, and I'm grateful to those who keep on giving!

I used to give blood all the time. I can't anymore but I have encouraged my children to start donating. It's an easy and life saving thing we can do!!!

I too think giving blood is a very worthy activity but since I had my last baby (many years ago) I cannot and since DH had Guillian Barre, he cannot either. We love to hear that those who can, do.

Fabulous and thanks!

When you get below 110 pounds you won't be allowed to give blood, so do it now!
