Tooth Extraction and Ice Cream
Thursday, August 07, 2014
So, in my unfortunate journey to what will probably be a mouthful of more implants than teeth, I had a molar extracted today. It had been drilled and filled so many times its roots just closed up and died, and there wasn't enough tooth left to put on a crown anyway, so out it went. Sigh.
It was a complicated surgical extraction, as the tooth next to it is root canaled and crowned, and could have been damaged. That means the tooth went out in pieces. As well, there was a risk that a hole could have been opened into my sinuses (read brain) yikes! But, the oral surgeon was excellent, the tooth is out, the crowned tooth is okay, and no gateway to my brain was created.
I drove home (no sedation for me, this was done with local needles) and read the aftercare instructions. They said eat high calorie soft food with a lot of protein. Ice cream, I thought. When has anyone ever told me to eat high calorie food? Never!
So, lots of ice cream in the house, as DH eats it. I ate ice cream and didn't even like it that much. I think that after so many years of health management, since 2009, my taste and body just don't like the junk like they used to.
I think I will be fine, managing the pain with Advil, and tonight for sleeping will take that very effective drug called Tylenol 3. I don't think it is available in the states. It has codeine in it, and can constipate you like crazy, so just one pill for sleeping. Advil tomorrow if I need it.
Good night all.
