Yesterday we got a visit from a friend & neighbor who lives about a mile away. She's about my age, and it's only the third time I've seen her this year.

When I saw her in January she said she and her husband were going back on their diets; could she borrow my Leslie Sansone "Walk off the pounds" DVD? I was very encouraging, and of course lent her the DVD, but I'd heard this before. She weighs close to 300 pounds and her husband weighs even more.

Then I saw her again around the beginning of March. She looked about the same but she said she had lost 30 pounds, and her husband about 40. Again, I was very encouraging and complimentary.

So yesterday, the doorbell rings, and I open the door and ---- I HARDLY RECOGNIZE THE WOMAN IN FRONT OF ME! She has lost 75 pounds since January and looks INCREDIBLE!!

We had a nice chat over tea; but like most of us she was quick to list her shortcomings: she still has quite a bit more to lose, has lots of loose skin, bat wings, etc. but I would hear NONE OF IT! I told her she was beautiful and looked 10 years younger! True!

Here's what she said, and this is the lesson for me: In the entire seven months that she and her husband have been doing this, they have not cheated. They visited their son and DIL for a week in another state, and even though DIL hates to cook and wanted to go out every evening, my friend wouldn't do it.

My friend finally put herself first and said, "I'm not going to undo everything good we've done." DIL pouted, but my friend didn't budge! YAY!

Another example of this iron will is Bobcatgirl76, who even took her own Whole30-compliant food to a wedding, to her grandmother's birthday, party, etc.!

And I'm inspired to go that hard core myself. Because it's what works. Because the end result is worth it.

I'M worth it! Time to stop making excuses and start getting busy!

Wow how inspiring! Your fruiend is impressive.
Yes being committed does make a difference. some folks cannot budge on their food choices due to medical reasons, wheat, nut, etc. Even restaurants can be accommodating. But it is entirely up to YOU what you choose to put in your mouth.
Mind you I am telling myself the above as I wrote it. Having diabetes I still need to make better choices.
