I have not had a soft drink in 12 days. Last weekend, I was feeling pretty good and it didn't bother me to work in the concession stand and be around them. However, the last couple of days, I have noticed that it is really getting to me. I can feel myself losing steam. I went to a cookout at my mom's and she had my favorite- Ale8- and it was not only cold but it had been in the freezer for a bit and was ICE COLD! I was good and drank water although I admit-I wasn't very happy about it.
Yesterday, I was talking with my daughter about it. She is 10 and she thinks it is very cool that I've had this streak going. She said she challenged me to go until August 15th before I can have a soft drink! I told her that was a good idea. It really helped me today, too, because we went to a little burger joint after a baseball game and I thought about her challenge. Had it not been for that, I would have probably talked myself into having one. Again, everyone around me ordered a soft drink and I had plain ol' water. I was feeling tired and thought I could use some caffeine, but I didn't want to let her down. I had the thought for a minute- did she really mean she REALLY challenged me to do this until August 15th? Would she remember? I decided I better not take the chance.
She had been with a friend so as soon as we picked her up she asked me if I had drank a soft drink. I told her "No, but I wanted to!" She said "Good! You inspired me, too because we went to McDonald's and I ordered a water, too!"
So, I am glad that I stuck with my goal and very glad to see that it is making a positive impact on the life of my precious 10 year old daughter. I am hoping that these cravings will come less and less and I will learn to love water more. I know that giving up soft drinks isn't the only thing that matters but for now, I know it is my biggest obstacle to living healthier. So.....here's to August 15th and beyond!
