My First Pipevine Swallowtail!

Saturday, August 02, 2014

When we first started raising butterflies in 2010, the Pipevine Swallowtail is the one we wanted to raise. Although we have had several Dutchman's Pipevine (their host plant) we never even saw one. There was a Swallowtail that laid eggs, but it was the Polydamas Swallowtail. Since I didn't know the difference, I called that one Pipevine. Well, four years later, I know the difference and I am thrilled to see these REAL Pipevine Swallowtails.

Beautiful! I'm amazed you can hold hold them! I saw some unusual butterflies at the Arboretum yesterday, wish I could tell you what they were.
