You step on the scale with trepidation in the morning and you hold your breath as you wait for the blinking digits to appear.
Will it be a pound up? Two pounds up? The same?
As far as you're concerned, your mood for the day will depend entirely upon the number that stares back at you. It's been this way for as long as you can remember.
One second... two seconds...
...you're up 0.8lbs.
You hang your head in disappointment and trudge back to the bedroom so you can get ready for work.
You're not just bummed; you're livid with yourself.
You're confused. How could you have put *on* weight when you nailed your macros yesterday and had your best workout of the entire month? Sure, you haven't pooped in three days, and maybe you barely got in a liter of water - not to mention you've been sleeping like crap and work stress has got you more wound up than ever - but still. The scale weight rules your life, obviously.
Yesterday, you felt lean and fantastic - today, fat. You feel fat.
You will have a permanent scowl on your face for the entire rest of the day, and you can already guarantee that *nothing* will go your way. Your coworkers will be annoying, drivers will be particularly obnoxious on the road, and you will slowly begin to question the meaning of your existence. Because of 0.8lbs.
Yet amidst all of this - your obsession with the scale, your conviction that you are now the biggest whale in the room - amidst this reality distortion field you've created for yourself, here's the kicker:
You're the only one who cares.
