Yesterday I put on the one pair of work pants I brought in my suitcases, and though they have never been snug or form-fitting, yesterday I noticed how really loose they are getting. It was actually a good feeling to walk around and have some extra space between me and my clothes. Every time I got up from my desk to walk somewhere, it really served as a reminder that what I am doing is paying off! For someone who gets discouraged very easily, this is huge. I also noticed that it may soon be time to buy some new undergarments. Floaty clothes I can handle for now. Loose undergarments, on the other hand, are not only uncomfortable but potentially hazardous!
In my mail yesterday was a size 12 dress I had ordered online, as a test. And not just any size 12, but a sheath in ponte fabric, which, if you aren't familiar with it, is a knit that can either look great, or highlight every bulge and bump. It fits! More surprisingly, there is actually a bit of floaty-ness going on on my upper half (where, by the way, I have particularly noticed a need for better-fitting undergarments). My tire around the middle is still a bit of an issue, but at least now it's an issue in a smaller dress size!
My sweet daughter was with me for the big try-on moment. It really felt great not just to receive her congratulations, but to know that she is witnessing that work can and does pay off, and that it's worth it to do good things for oneself.
To celebrate, we broke out the tortilla chips and salsa tucked away in our still ill-stocked pantry. Mmmm, delicious, but I don't think it was such a great idea. They killed my appetite for good, 'real' food, and this morning I have a headache, which I am attributing to the salt. So time now for me to sweat some of it out, and keep going!
