July 2014 Physical Malady
Saturday, July 26, 2014
On Wednesday, July 16, I noticed that my right side neck and upper chest were very tight. Painful, like a muscle cramp or pinched nerve. No fever or other anomaly. So, I took an aspirin to knock the edge off of the pain, and tried to loosen everything up with stretching. Aspirin worked, stretching did not.
On Thursday, the same thing. Stretching and aspirin.
On Friday, I did not take any aspirin, but continued stretching. Nothing is working. Like Wednesday and Thursday, I had no issues with sleeping or movement of the right arm.
Saturday morning, four large bumps on my shoulder, near the neck. Looked like bug bites or very large pimples. Just raised skin, no breakage. Nothing is improving. Aspirin works, sort of.
About 6 pm on Saturday, a fever is brewing. Also, there is another bump, about center chest, about 1.5 inches below the hollow in the throat.
I do not know if the “bumps” in the skin have anything to do with the nerve/muscle problem.
And why is there a fever four days after the beginning of this?
Sunday: Was barely able to focus on the music (playing the organ at church), but managed with several doses of aspirin.
Monday, pain is too much. After work, went to urgent care on Hamilton Road. Diagnosis: Shingles. Meds: Valtrex. Dr. wanted to give me a script for pain, which I declined.
Tuesday: Back to work – had a full day of strange and difficult court hearings. Could barely breathe through the pain. During the evening I switched from aspirin to acetaminophen.
Wednesday: Called in sick to work. Had only one court hearing, and my boss was able to handle it. I took naps nearly the entire day and only logged 357 steps that entire day.
Thursday: I took the day off of work. I am feeling somewhat better, but the pain is still difficult. The blisters that never popped are disappearing. The four that popped have red points on them. I was able to be awake during normal hours and go to SLEEP at the normal time. Slept through the night for the first time since Saturday night.
Friday: My normal day off of work. I felt well enough to drive to see the dog kennel where I was considering as a source for my new puppy. I met the puppy and decided to get him. By the time the 45 minute visit was over, I was exhausted. But I felt OK enough to drive home.
Saturday: I am no longer taking any pain meds (acetaminophen). I have one more day of prescribed meds to finish off the course of treatment.
