My 1,000,000th New Plan :)

Sunday, July 20, 2014

Seriously folks, this new plan stuff is getting old....but I just keep starting and stopping. I definitely need to work on my stick-to-it-iveness!

So with that said...I'm going to begin in the infant stage. I think I have been jumping in over my head, all or nothing, and I need to work up to certain stages. And I am done with broken promises to myself.

Here it is:

1) Get to bed at a decent time...sleep is vital to the equation!

2) Right when I wake up in the morning do my yoga stretches and 15 min weight training video...start the day off right.

3) Drink a lot of water through out the day..work up to a gallon a day.

4) More fruits and veggies with meals or as a snack.

5) Take a walk either after lunch or supper.

6) Be kind to myself.

7) Repeat :)

Those are awesome goals! Have you considered adding tracking your food in there somewhere? That is the one factor that always helps me the most. You don't know where to go if you don't know where you're starting.

For some reason this post really clicked with me, and I had some thoughts I'd love to share! They're in relation to your 7 points.

1) Sleep helps in so many areas. It's good for your metabolism, it increases you energy levels, helping you say yes to exercise when you might otherwise be too sleepy. Sleep is hard for me though, cause I'm such a night person, and after the kids are asleep there's only so much time to unwind and relax. I was lucky when I started my weight loss last year, because my wife was up with the kids at her parent's trailer-house all summer. It gave me all the time in the world to focus on just myself. After getting into the habit, it made it easier to keep making the choice to exercise even with less sleep, but it's tough in the beginning.

2) I wish I was a morning exercise person. I probably could be now, but when I was grossly out of shape and overweight, it just wasn't something I could do. Everyone has different schedules though, and you just have to make the time wherever you can. Kudos to you for pushing hard first thing in the morning!

3) Pro tip time! Get a nalgene bottle, or any water bottle, and carry it with you EVERYWHERE! Keep drinking, keep re-filling, just do it! The amount of water weight you'll lose and keep off by making this a habit is INCREDIBLE! It gets rid of the bloated feeling in such a big way. It also helps your metabolism, and is one of the cornerstones to weight loss.

4) Fruits and veggies are still something I struggle to make a constant in my diet. I eat far more than I ever have, as you can eat a massive kale salad, or a buttload of carrots, and feel super full without all the calories that keep our waistlines from shrinking. Apples, blueberries, and bananas are my go-to fruits. It's really all about learning to love these things. The less we eat sweets and junkfood, and the more we eat this stuff, it just gets easier to love it instead.

5) True fact: an hour walk in the evening, four times a week at least, will do WONDERS for your weight loss efforts!!! It engages your metabolism and keeps it running long into the night, and it helps you burn through and digest your dinner quicker. My mom and dad lost a massive amount of weight over two years by doing this consistently. During the colder months, they'd go walking around the mall instead.

6) We are the worst possible critics of ourselves, and we say the meanest things. Staying on track despite wanting to go off the rails will pay off so much in the long run, as you'll become addicted to all the nice thoughts you start to have about yourself. Feeling good about ourselves takes effort, sadly, but once you start feeling good, it makes it easier to keep pushing.

7) Repeat should be a life motto when it comes to our health, as it's not going to be an everyday success story. There will be days where we have to take as many small victories as possible in spite of getting it wrong, but that's what makes it soooo important that we remember we can always "repeat" and start from the start. We're never so far off that we can't just restart... even though we tell ourselves that we are.

GOOD LUCK! KEEP PUSHING! :D

I'm trying to get up and walk the dog before my husband leaves for work. So struggling with that right now. That's my big one.

Starting small is what really works! I started with just changes to my diet. I'm slowly..I mean slowly getting physical activity in the mix. emoticon

Its okay to start small--I did! What I did was picked one thing, as that wasn't so overwhelming for me. But whatever you do, whatever good choice you make for you---be proud of it! Take delight in the things that you are doing right :) You can do it!!! emoticon
