There are currently 23.6 million people in the USA with diabetes (7.8% of the population). The total number of people with diabetes worldwide is projected to increase from 171 million in 2000 to 366 million in 2030.

    My husband was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and both his maternal and paternal sides have a history of it. It is prevalent on my maternal side, but fortunately neither my Mom nor I have had issues with it yet. I try to lead by example for my kids, so they have a fighting chance against it as well...

  The statistics are alarming. People have to learn to eat healthier and to move more. Hopefully we can bring those numbers down.
