Secret Agent

Monday, July 14, 2014

Secret Agent was an import from the UK. It aired there as Danger Man. The name was changed when CBS aired it in 1960. There was a gap of four years between season 1 and 2. Patrick McGoohan starred as John Drake, a smooth talking, suave agent working for Her Majesty's Secret Service. He had terrific spy tools like exploding tie pins, and electric razors that could also be tape recorders. Patrick McGoohan was offered the role of James Bond, but turned it down because he thought it was demeaning to women.

JOHNNY RIVERS sang the theme song.
"Secret Agent Man"
(P.F. Sloan / S. Barri)

There's a man who leads a life of danger
To everyone he meets he stays a stranger
With every move he makes another chance he takes
Odds are he won't live to see tomorrow
Secret agent man, secret agent mand
They've given you a number and taken away your name

(I think there's a spy among us...)

Beware of pretty faces that you find
A pretty face can hide an evil mind
Ah, be careful what you say
Or you'll give yourself away
Odds are you won't live to see tomorrow
Secret agent man, secret agent man
They've given you a number and taken away your name

[Lead guitar]

Secret agent man, secret agent man
They've given you a number and taken away your name
Swingin' on the Riviera one day
And then layin' in the Bombay alley next day
Oh no, you let the wrong word slip
While kissing persuasive lips

The odds are you won't live to see tomorrow
Secret agent man, secret agent man
They've given you a number and taken away your name
Secret agent man
