The girls are here from Washington state and we decided to take them to Santa Cruz for a night of fun. I work extra hours to get Wednesday off and we head out bright an early.
About an hour into the trip my daughter says her check engine light came on and what does she do? I was like "don't panic, but let's stop at a gas station and let's make sure you're not overheating or something"
well we take the exit and come to a stop....only when she goes it's like 5 mph. I'm telling her "come on push the pedal" and she says "I am...this is IT"
Now, I kind of knew we might be in trouble. So we drive around this town (somewhere in Concord, Concordia area??) and we find this body shop. Two very nice fellows come over and they drive the car around and call all the dealerships in the area to see what it could be.
Sounds like a clogged fuel filter or bad gas. Only NO ONE could even LOOK at our car til the following week. LOOK at it, not fix.
Well, we put in octane booster and try to drive it around only the car is shaking like a chiwawa so bad that I tell Ms Kate, let's just find a hotel here. We call Roadside assistance to see how much a tow back to our neck of the woods is and it's oh, only $1000.
I had to do it. I had to call the hubster. Who was very cool about the whole thing. He borrowed a tow hitch from his boss and picked up four damsels in distress in a town somewhere in California in the last hotel room with no pool, gym, or good tv.
Towed it to the dealership in our town and guess what? Whoever serviced it before we left (ehem...the same people looking at it) OVER serviced it and the oil was double what it should have been. So it was "okay" in town but when we took it on freeway in 100 degree weather, well, it destroyed the piston, the spark, the motor and much much more. I haven't even made the first payment on it yet.
Our BBQs have been going well. I've been helping out as much as possible which is to say I've been doing dishes for hours on end. LOL
Yesterday my work had a Christmas in July event to which hubs BBQd there...I was running back and forth.
My eating during all this has just been a wreck and I've totally noticed it in my tummy troubles. The absolute pain reminds me why I was not eating this way in the first place...but I must be moving so much my weigh in remained the same.
Anyhow...I just wanted to check in and share my great car story with you and how my husband saved us from strandedment. Car will be in shop for over a week so it's back to doing the car shuffle as no one seems to like me walking to and from work in 100 degree weather.
