Proud, Happy, Blessed

Sunday, July 13, 2014

Here's part of my Galloway running group, Dream Chasers, yesterday during the Miracle Mile. I'm in purple running shorts, mostly blocked by Fritz. I ended up passing him before it was over. As I posted yesterday, I finished the mile in 8:50 and was happy with that result. I'm already in the fastest half marathon group, so my assignment won't change. This year all the fast runners are in the marathon groups.

We have over 70 people in our group this year, but only 45 ran the Miracle Mile. Some chickened out. A group of 8 of our fastest runners were running the Grandfather Mountain Marathon, so they are excused. I came in 7th out of the runners yesterday. Except for Fritz who is 77, I was the oldest. We ran the Miracle Mile in waves by group so that the timers would be sure to get everyone's time correctly.

Here's my niece, Allyson, running fourth with the grey shirt/blue shorts, smiling. She ran her mile in 10:03. I think she was expecting to be faster. She is in the Cruise Control group, but was hoping to move up. Hope she'll be content with her assignment

My nephew, Martin, is in this group, the Turtles. He's running third in black shirt/blue shorts. He finished in 10:32 which is super good for him. His one mile time last year was over a minute slower. Of course he's lost more than 15 pounds in the year. He's hoping to be moved up to Allyson's group which would drive her nuts. Isn't sibling rivalry fun??

The Turtles run faster than the Super Sloths, which is lead by my friend, Shyre. Unfortunately she is in Costa Rica, and like many of our members, missed this event. Quite a few people had good vacation excuses.

Here's the Miracle Mile course we ran yesterday. It is just south and slightly east of our YMCA. It was not closed to traffic, but other than that, I liked the course. It was not as flat as a high school track, but not much incline.

While we're at it, let me throw in one more Lakeland-related running picture, although we did not run here yesterday:

It's a neighborhood we run fairly often, including during the Mayfaire 5K and the Lakeland Half Marathon I'll be running again this November.

Proud to be a runner! Happy to be a runner! Blessed to be a runner!
