It's okay to be hungry

Saturday, July 12, 2014

I want to eat.

I am not really hungry.

I allowed myself a small piece of chocolate and I did try to savor it.

The chocolate did not satisfy my desire to eat.

I don't know why I want to eat.

I walked around the block, but I still want to eat.

So far, I have resisted.

This happens to me too, but I know why I want to eat. That choc chip cookie dough ice cream tastes good. Resistence is hard, but not futile.

A very familiar experience for me too.

I tell myself, "Hunger is not an emergency. Thin people experience hunger every day."

I try to reframe hunger as the expectation that I'm really going to enjoy my next scheduled meal.

And it was Dr. Judith S. Beck's terrific book, "The Beck Diet Solution, the 6 week plan to train your brain to think like a thin person", which helped me most with this . . . .

I struggle with this too. WANTING to eat vs NEEDING! Some great suggestions her from other SP friends. Keep up the good work....making better choices! Glad I stopped by to read your blog. Everybody has something out there that helps others.

Thanks for all the support. I did not NEED to eat, I WANTED to eat. The thing is, nothing really looked good. I still have not figured out the emotional trigger that was causing me to WANT to eat. BUT, I did NOT eat to try to fill the void.

I felt the same, warmed up a small flour tortilla with a thin slice of provolone and a slice of deli chicken; carbs, fat, protein rolled into a nice snack.

Sometimes if you give in to the taste by making sure you limit the volume, you may get the craving out of your system.

I've made sure I measure and walk away from the open containers.
I tell myself my craving might be so great that I have to give in to it but at least I will control the amounts I eat. 1 serving and that's it. measure and put away the container!

I agree with the piece of fruit and water. That helps me too.

Try a nice piece of fruit and a big glass of ice water. That is what I just did. It helped quite a bit.
