Rhode Island Weekend

I went to Rhode Island with my daughter to watch her run in the Jamestown Half Marathon. On Friday we went biking on the East Bay Bike Path. It is one of the best and most scenic bike trails I've ever been on. ( although what I thought was a quaint bridge with arches ( above) is actually two giant drain pipes through a mound of rocks) It runs between East Providence and Bristol along the coast. It is 14 mi. one way and paved and doesn't have too many road crossings. There are plenty of shady stretches

And picturesque wooden bridges.

Rhode Island is famous for Del's Frozen Lemonade. This is right along the path. It was good!

One funny thing was that they want walkers to walk on the left and bikers ride on the right. That was different! The first girl who was running toward me on the path on my side I thought was a dunce then I caught on. It was hard to get used to and it still doesn't really make sense to me.
Then Sat. Was the race. Jamestown was picturesque also, but my daughter said the race route was not - but it had shade.

And I finally, finally! Got a good action shot at a race. It was pure luck.

I was disappointed that there wasn't a 5 K for me, but the biking was enough. I got some walking in while waiting, but had forgotten my fit bit. It was 5 am so I wasn't thinking. All in all a fantastic week end. The runner is now napping!

    Great pictures! Enjoyed your recounting of the experience, too!! If you can run a 5K, you can run a half marathon. Maybe you already do, but just didn't want to today. But if you are considering it, just remember to slow down, include walk breaks, and train for about 4 months!! Jeff Galloway's program is a great one, very likely to enable you to run injury free. I run both 5Ks and HM, but in many ways the HM is more fun. Really. Maybe you can join your daughter next time. Or if she's too fast, just finish a bit after. That's good, too.
