The thing I miss most about a gym membership is access to elliptical machines. I crave that real cardio workout that I just can't reproduce by jogging (hurts my knees). So. The park system has a whole bunch of fitness centers, and one is only a little over a mile away from home. I checked when I was apartment hunting in 2011, and it's super affordable to use. The field house fitness room is small, but the equipment seemed decent enough. No changing room, only the tiny ladies room. All of that is no problem, but I'm a little phobic about crowded spaces. I always went to the gym late to avoid people, but this one isn't open late. If I'm going to use it, I'm going to have to just go, take my workout clothes and three dollars (the per-use cost!), and give it a try. I'm *this* close to pulling the trigger, because I really do miss -- and need -- that cardio. But the social/psychological hurdle is a big deal.
The fact that we've got a steady rain today isn't helping my motivation. Although... perhaps it's the perfect day to try it, for just that reason. But a Saturday. Ugh. This is a huge part of what I hate about a 9-5 job: being forced to do errands when *everyone* is doing them.
