18.12 Challenge - Training week #9 and 15k Race

Wednesday, July 09, 2014

Woohoo! Life is good!

Run 1 - 7.29 miles (Hot and Humid, pretty slow going)
Run 2 - 4.07 miles (Felt pretty darn good)
Run 3 - 10.6 miles (LSR? Great hike with my pals!)
Run 4 - 9.3 miles (15k Race)

All in all, this week was pretty good. I'm sure the 4 day Holiday weekend had something to do with that. My new inhaler seems to be helping a whole lot, yes!

I ran my first 15k this week and it was also mostly a trail race which I have not done either. The other runners were maniacs! And I say that in a loving and admirable way. Oh how I wish I could run like that! They are inspiring. A bunch of very fit and fast runners of various ages.

I basically took my time being careful so I would not trip on any tree roots or rocks. I really do not want to get injured and have to bail on my training or worse yet, bail on the races that I am training for. I seen several bloody knees in the bunch and I didn't want to be in that group. I also found, the bifocals and trail running do not go together very well.

I made to the end without getting hurt and I am fairly happy with my time, I would always love to be faster but hey I finished it.

Who is this girl? Never would I have guessed that I would be doing the things I am doing today. Loving life!

Congrats on your 15K and a trail race!

Your hiking should be a great training ground for trail runs.

You are doing SUPER! Way to keep up your training for 18.12.

You are doing very well, and I am very proud of you. The efforts you are putting forth with so much awareness of your objectives, and motivation out the...whatever.

On the first morning of my cruise at the end of May, I'm in the fitness center at 6:15 am. I see this guy on the treadmill running for at least 60 minutes at a pace that would finish a marathon in the top percentile. He didn't have an ounce of fat on him. At every opportunity I had I looked for him. He inspired me to give it my all even when it is no where near what he has. You do the same.

Be ever mindful of your drive to ascend the heights. Be blessed!

Wonderful. Yes, trail racing and road racing are entirely different. Good job!

Great job! Trail races are always an extra challenge. And you were very smart to be cautious.

PS: I know what you mean about bifocals. But I wouldn't wear them on road races either! Too easy to miss a pothole :-P

15K trail run? Sounds like you must be pretty buff. There will always be maniacs to chase!
