I walked my first 5k. emoticon Nowhere near as fast as I had hoped, but still not quite last. The weather was great not too hot, cold, windy, or wet. They used a different route than normal and we're not quite sure it was exactly 5k, DD says maybe a bit longer than it should be- she should know she runs 5k's a lot. But it was not too bad until the last 3/4 of a mile or so when my hip started complaining. By then DD had finished, did her cool down and walked the course backward to find me and walk the last part with me and encourage me to not slow down and finish strong. I think I would have slowed down if she hadn't been with me. I pretty much kept to the same pace for the whole race.

57 minutes and some odd seconds (didn't look that closely) And I WALKED emoticon every step. A lot of the walkers broke into a jog for part of the race.

DD's time was 23 min + which for her is a bit slow (her normal is around 20-21 hence the thought it was a bit long) She came in second of ALL the women! She didn't even seriously try for first cause the girl who won, in DD's words "was a BEAST" (she was running with one of the guys that came in, in the top 2 or 3).

The camp has undergone a lot of changes in the management and policies in the last year so this year the run was free, but no shirt. emoticon

For a reward for a job well done we did go and get ice cream, I did get a baby cone, but couldn't finish it and gave my leftovers to DH. I used to get the next larger size and eat every bite. Maybe next time I'll get the kiddie cone, but they will only do one flavor for that size. emoticon

Now I need to walk emoticon a couple extra miles this week to burn off most of the extra calories, before Thursday's weigh in.

Way to go! I was dead last the first time I walked a 5K and it took about 100 minutes. I haven't done one in a long time but you are inspiring me to try again.

emoticon It is such a rush to accomplish something you never thought you would be able to do. Good for you. You didn't need to be fast, you just needed to finish ~ and you did! emoticon
