Gastric Sleeve - 1 day post op

Thursday, July 03, 2014

I'm home! Had my Gastric Sleeve yesterday and want to record everything before I get too tired or forget. First off, I wantt o say that Roger William's Bariatric Center for Excellence is truly that. The care I received was exceptional. They prepared me pre-op with seminars on what would be happening, step by step they walked me through everything. I received calls, reminders, and my surgery and hospital stay was about as perfect as you could get. I went in yesterday at 11am, was in surgery by 12:30, in recovery by 3:00 and in a private room by 5pm. ALL patients in the bariatric ward get private rooms with private showers. I have very little pain, and any pain I did have was managed immediately. My nurses were there with ice chips when I could have them, and by this morning I had a protein shake. They had me up and walking by 6pm last night, but it was fine. I had some gas pain in my shoulder until this morning. I have 5 incision sites, but only 2 are really sore. I'm slightly queasy, but if you go slow you will be fine. I take a small sip of water or shake, and I wait. When I feel better, I take another. The worst thing was how dry I was post surgery and waiting to get ice chips. It seemed like forever, but it was only about 3 hours. I can swallow pills (they gave me 2 Tylenol in the hospital for pain). I weighed in yesterday at 312, and I'm 320 now. When they say they hydrate you, they hydrate you! Gonna rest now. Hubby taking good care of me.
