It is July! Meaning half 2014 is gone... (and it is Canada Day! - So I have the day off!!!)
Time to do a little distance report. On my last one dated end of April I was at 871.5k/ 542 miles total distance for the year (again this is training miles only). That month was very intense ; I covered 306.5k / 190.8 miles.
That was also my "training building block" for my marathon championship. The first three weeks of May, I slowed down a bit (taper) … so I would be rested for the race.
So here are my numbers!
31 May: 224.2.2km / 140.2 miles (there is a .2 in a
30 June: This month was a recovery month ... almost - keep reading you will see why.
I did only 194.5km / 120 miles.
My total distance at mid 2014 is: 1290km / 801 miles
So I am more than half way toward my distance goal of 2300km!
Just as a comparison, last year I was at 1063k / 664 miles....
But most importantly, as I wrote on my iRun bib - now 26.2 - I run to keep my Zen! :)
Relay for Life was once again part of my June distance tracking... Maggie did a bake sale at her school again this year and she raised close to 100$. I did not raised as much money as I did last year nevertheless, walking 12 hours through the night (from 7PM to 7AM) ... and even did a little Zumba at 6AM with my daughter is a great way to celebrate.
It started of with the Survivor lap -this year is my 8th year as a survivor. It was a long night, it was cold too! At 2 o'clock in the morning not many people were on the track walking. Maggie went inside to rest and warm up. It was quiet and I tried mindful walking - just paying attention to each steps I was taking... and my breath, I could actually see it! I also had the support of Emma (my 18yo daughter) and Meliza (my sister) who both kept texting me to keep me motivated. They sent me a pic of the bracelet a gave them during the marathon weekend 2 weeks prior.
Finally, I am back at running. I am starting slow and will gradually increase the mileage. I have time, my next race will be the Army Run in Ottawa - Half marathon. It will be my fourth time participating in this event, only this time will be different. My sister and daughter are joining me and they will be running a 5k! They already started training and my sister completed her first 5k one month ago - I guess I had a little influence there!
Monday morning, I went for my first summer run of the year at the trail on base. It was very nice. Before starting, I was wondering if I would be able to do this…(yeah - my brain is tricking me to think that 5k is difficult... I guess every workout is difficult)… as usual, my first km felt like I was dragging a block of cement. But then I started paying attention to my surroundings and my mantra of the day "thinking easy!"… and 23 min later I was done!
I love this trail. I stopped to stretch my left IT - could not do it for long because the mosquitos were bad! I enjoy this trail all year round but I have to say early summer morning are the best. My bonus of the day: I saw a cardinal (sorry no picture).
Have a great July!
