More baseball tournaments

Monday, June 30, 2014

We spent another weekend watching a baseball tournament. This time Josh (14 yr old) played even less than before. It had something to do with the fact that the coach’s son plays (nearly every inning) and that there are 14 players on this team. I understand that with that many players, no one player (should) play all innings, but come-on! Their first game was last Friday, and Josh warmed up one of the outfielders each inning, then warmed the bench until after two outs in the last inning when he finally got an at-bat. Josh did get a little more play on Sat and Sun.

Trying to move on, they only played one game per day – Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and because they lost all three games, it was over for them, so we came home a day early.

The weekend of the 21st and 22nd they played at Rehoboth Beach – my first time to go there. We walked the boardwalk some each day, and that was fun. My grandsons got ocean-wet and it was fun to watch. emoticon

This past weekend they played in New Jersey, and we were able to spend much of Sunday morning on the boardwalk at Ocean City, NJ. Because of walking the boardwalk and because we parked (for free) about 6-8 blocks from the beach, I got in over 12,000 steps yesterday. emoticon

DD, her DH and sons went onto the beach, and DH and I walked the boardwalk, sat in a pavilion facing the ocean, enjoying the brisk breeze, and generally had a nice morning.

There are three more tournaments, but DH and I are not planning to go to ALL of them. That will take us through July, then Josh will get a break, although I think he’s going to play Fall Ball.

Josh loves baseball, and has ever since he played T-ball as a 5 or 6 yr old. He primarily catches, but also does a great job on 3rd base, and even in outfield. A year ago, some college coaches let Josh know that they had their eye on him……he’s GOOD (not perfect, but that’s ok). His academics are great, too – Distinguished Honor Roll all through Middle School. Josh is quite mature – makes good decisions in other areas of his life.

Can you tell that Grandma is busting her buttons with pride? LOL

Glad you got to go and watch Josh play but made a vacation of it too, with the Boardwalk and all. I guess they got it rebuilt after Sandy hit? I can tell you are proud of Josh and rightfully so! He sounds like a well-rounded young man, smart and talented, too! emoticon for sharing with us!

I am glad you had a great time and the weather was nice. Sorry Josh isn't getting a lot of playing time but maybe in the next league things will be better. I have never been along the coast up in that area-something to put on my bucket list!
