Here I am at the finish line of Saturday's race. Sarah, our Galloway Program Director, asked me to make sure I smiled at the finish and I must say I did. Looks kinda goofy, though, especially compared to the young 'uns in the foreground looking spent. Not sure this was Sarah's best advice. I kind of liked the determined look on my face at finish 3 weeks ago, but she was not impressed. As I lined up for this race she came and encouraged me to move up even closer to the start and reminded me to smile at the end.
So hope Sarah approves. She said she wants to talk 5K strategy with me on Saturday morning. That's the day we have a timed one mile "miracle mile." Wonder what she is going to suggest. I would love to get a little faster without incurring injury. If my choice is one fast race or many more years of running, it is clear. I want to run until I'm 100 -- or 80 at least.
Here's my good friend, Fritz, enjoying watermelon at age 77 after he ran a great 5K race!
This evening I'm going to try a new workout with Lakeland Runners Club at Lakeland High School track. I'll let you know how it turns out. And, of course, I'll share my new strategy and "miracle mile" experience.
It truly is cool to be a half-fast old lady! Thanks for reading about my exploits. Don't forget that 10 (or 20 or 30 or 40)years ago I could not have run a block. Life is so much better lived full of energy and determined to carry on!!
