You Knew It Was Coming - Race Pix

Monday, June 30, 2014

Here I am at the finish line of Saturday's race. Sarah, our Galloway Program Director, asked me to make sure I smiled at the finish and I must say I did. Looks kinda goofy, though, especially compared to the young 'uns in the foreground looking spent. Not sure this was Sarah's best advice. I kind of liked the determined look on my face at finish 3 weeks ago, but she was not impressed. As I lined up for this race she came and encouraged me to move up even closer to the start and reminded me to smile at the end.

So hope Sarah approves. She said she wants to talk 5K strategy with me on Saturday morning. That's the day we have a timed one mile "miracle mile." Wonder what she is going to suggest. I would love to get a little faster without incurring injury. If my choice is one fast race or many more years of running, it is clear. I want to run until I'm 100 -- or 80 at least.

Here's my good friend, Fritz, enjoying watermelon at age 77 after he ran a great 5K race!

This evening I'm going to try a new workout with Lakeland Runners Club at Lakeland High School track. I'll let you know how it turns out. And, of course, I'll share my new strategy and "miracle mile" experience.

It truly is cool to be a half-fast old lady! Thanks for reading about my exploits. Don't forget that 10 (or 20 or 30 or 40)years ago I could not have run a block. Life is so much better lived full of energy and determined to carry on!!

You look like you are enjoying yourself in the picture. That is very motivating, for people who may be considering taking up the sport, to see. Awesome!

Yeah, Marsha!! You don't even look tired.....I did two 45 min. walks today, so I am progressing with my strength since my ankle break. I can still only get 1 lap done at the dam, which I would have thought would have been easier walking on dirt than on sidewalk, but apparently not. Another friend reminded me how much fun I was having and how happy and confident I was when I walked the dam last year, so gonna keep progressing..

Is it mean to think that it is hysterically funny to see that juxtaposition? I don't think so because they've got youth on their side to get over it and you scored one for the over 50 team! Even if I get to my goal weight I'll never look that good at the finish line, because I sweat too much. The thing that made me look at your page when I first started SP was how HAPPILY healthy you looked! emoticon

Any picture crossing a finish line is a win in my book. However, you got some serious style! Thanks for all your posts reminding us to keep on. Seriously, thank you.
