The guy who we were going to build our with got his numbers back and they weren't even close to what we could afford on the home. I got that email on Monday and I just cried. Let down, AGAIN. He was quick to add in that we could change some things to lower the cost, but he was 30K over what we wanted to pay.
So, we met with yet ANOTHER builder and a designer. What they suggested was paying a little money to reconfigure the guest wing of our plan. It was supposed to have a jack and jill bathroom connecting the 2 bedrooms and then a little powder room up at the front of the wing. By nixing that bathroom situation and doing a hall bathroom, we could save a good bit of money there by not buying an extra toilet, vanity, fixtures, plumbing, labor, etc. We are also going to trim 1 sq foot along the back of the house. The designer said we would never even notice it gone. Our master bath is very roomy, so we are going to try to make it a little smaller as well. They proceeded to say we could get the most bang for our buck by not doing 10-12 foot ceilings. Do 8 foot ceilings and then coffer them up higher. We will use less framing, brick, drywall, labor, etc. Plus, we will need smaller exterior windows which will have lower costs.
You know what really chaps my hide? I didn't know ANY OF THIS. I didn't know that higher ceilings cost that much more. I didn't know that you could coffer them up and still have higher ceilings, but pay less money. Why on God's green earth did none of the other prospective builders say anything? We aren't godzillionaire's with tons of money to throw around. We are a teacher and a cop. The cop bringing in quite a bit more :o) We just want to bring this dream that we have had for over a year to into reality.
So we are going with this new builder. His wife was our realtor when we sold our house last year so we know him and when looking at a recently finished build, liked what we saw.
Fitness-wise, I am doing okay. I still haven't stepped on the scale but plan to on Sunday. I have ran twice this week. I am doing 3 minute jogging and 30 second walking intervals. I have also been tracking my food and trying to keep my calories down. I hate that I haven't worked out recently because my biggest pet peeve is when my inner thighs rub together. I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
