Unexpected Date Night.

Thursday, June 19, 2014

Had a pretty good day today. I worked from 9-2:30. I did cut the $#!t out of my finger today, when I was trying to cut open my avocado for lunch. It cut me so deep that it scared me. But I'm ok. I'll just have a sore finger for a few days...and probably a scar. I also have two other tiny cuts on a couple other fingers, but I have no clue how they got there.

Anyway.

Out of the blue this afternoon, my SIL said she was having a sleepover tonight with her girls and the nieces. She invited my daughter as well. She asked if Daughter would like to come, and of course I said yes. I couldn't wait to tell her. I was so excited for her! I remember those days, when you're little, and all of the sudden, out of nowhere, something amazing and fun is about to happen. Your heart just feels like it's going to explode with excitement. I was so excited for Daughter, and couldn't wait to tell her. They are also going to the pool tomorrow morning, so they are going to have a blast.

Then I thought about how nice it would be to do something special with Husband. I was thinking we should go on a date or something. I wasn't completely sure what to do, but I wanted to do something special.

I decided that tonight was going to be DATE NIGHT IN. I knew it wasn't really a good idea to spend the money on going out...and once I started thinking about it, I thought it would be so nice to just have a nice night at home, alone, with Husband. So that's what I decided to do. Date Night at home.

So...

I found out about this around 2, and was getting off work at 2:30. When I found out that Daughter was going to be leaving soon, I started scheming. I had made plans in the morning to go to a local hotel after work to apply for this job I read about in the paper. As it turned out, my two SILs were on their way to the store when I got home, and decided to just swing into my house and pick up Daughter. So that's what they did. I got Daughter out the door and changed clothes, fixed my hair, and went to the hotel. I filled out my application and then went to the grocery store, where I picked up wine and beer (Hey. It's Date Night). Then I came home and hung up my outfit, and put on a maxi dress...casual, but pretty. I vacuumed, dusted, and made sure the kitchen was nice and tidy. I put out some candles on the island and on the table. I had the wine chilling in the freezer. I had the table set with pretty placemats, cloth napkins, etc... I was only missing one thing: Husband.

Husband got home and as he was walking through the door, he said, "Oh...you look pretty." That made me feel so good. I didn't know he'd even seen it, but he asked, "What's Daughter having for dinner?" I asked him what he meant. He said, "There are only two places set at the table." Then I told him Daughter was gone, and that she'd be spending the night with his sister and her cousins.

Yep. That's right. I didn't tell him. Having the house and the night to ourselves was a total surprise.

He was happy. He dropped his Carharts and reached for his jammie pants. He said, "I hope you don't mind if our Date Night begins with my jammie pants." Of course not. I wanted him to be comfortable. I had a maxi dress on...and my slippers. So yeah, I was ok with it.

Husband and I sat at the island and just talked. He drank a beer and I drank some wine. Yes, I paused my Phase One to enjoy an adult beverage on one of the RARE occasions I have special time with Husband. We just talked and it was so nice. It had been thundering for quite a while, so we just visited and listened to the thunder. Then we went out and started the grill, after pulling it onto the porch. Just a few minutes later, it started POURING rain. We cooked tilapia fillets on cedar planks, on the grill. We seasoned them with fresh lime juice and a "fiesta lime" seasoning. I made salad and brussel sprouts, as well as some beer bread that my friend gave us at Christmas (he gave us two loaves and I'd had one in the freezer). I put real butter on the bread and everything. Dinner was SO good, and the company was wonderful. We had a really great evening. Husband even told me that he had a great date night, so that made me feel good. We came into the bedroom and turned on BBQ Pitmasters and had a little pudding for dessert. We're just relaxing. I'm so glad we just stayed at home. I'm so glad we didn't get caught out in that crazy rainstorm. It's so nice to just have some time alone together in our own home.

So anyways...here's today's run-down:

-----

Breakfast: crunchy peanut butter, almond milk, hot green tea with sugar-free French vanilla and Truvia.

Lunch: one avocado, mesquite turkey lunchmeat slices, cheddar cheese stick.

Dinner: grilled tilapia, salad (mixed lettuce, tomato, avocado, cheese, cuke, bleu cheese dressing), steamed brussel sprouts, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray, warmed beer bread with butter, pinot grigio, lime La Croix.

Dessert: sugar-free butterscotch pudding, sugar-free Cool Whip.

Snacks: Sliced tomato with fresh basil, balsamic vinegar, mozzarella cheese. Crunchy peanut butter.

-----

So I'm happy. It was a nice day. I'm going to sign off and snuggle with Husband...and the cat.
