Making my environment better

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

So everyone hears about "curb appeal" and "focal points" and "mood altering actions" as applied to one's home and front door. After the harsh winter we had, dark days of thundersnow and rainy, dreary months after, I decided a yellow door would be a welcome sight. What do you all think?
This is the side door, which is the same as the "before" on the entry door.

This is the "after" front of our house.

Now, the quandry is: do I give the side door the same treatment? Should the upper door (that is my kitchen balcony) be yellow, too? (Dave says yes, I say no.)

At any rate, whenever I come down the driveway, I get a big smile on my face from the perceived sunshine!

Here is a "photo-shopped" pic showing the other option:

Hi,I am not a fan of yellow but I like the yellow door and chairs. It brightens things up! I do believe that painting the door upstairs on the balcony might be a distraction. Maybe you could put some yellow flower pots or herb pots on the balcony. emoticon

I have such a hard time finding blogs since Spark made the changes. I love, love, love the yellow door though I must say I'm with you as to the upstairs. I'd smile everytime I came home too.

I worked for years in a dingy orange room at school and one summer they painted it a lighter shade of yellow (I believe the custodian called it Queen Anne's Lace but I always called it yellow). Everytime I walked in the room after the paint job, I had to smile. There is just something about yellow.

I see your point, Donna. That would look good. However, it is plastic, and I'd be afraid it would be a constant battle touching up chips! I can barely keep up with the chipped walls INside ! BTW, the flowers have yellow blooms, too! And I got some larger dahlias as well.

I love the yellow and also the matching chairs and I especially love that it makes you happy when you see it...that is what it's all about. Take some time to decide about the other doors, the drama can be lost if you use too much of the accent while a little more can tie things together. Is that a deck box to the right? I think that would be great in the same yellow as the chairs and door. emoticon

Thanks for the positive comments, gals....I really need more input as to the upper door quandry... I think I WILL eventually do the side door, too.

I think the sunny yellow is beautiful! Amazing transformation. I can see the pros and cons of using more -- follow your heart!
