Day 996... rest day?

Monday, June 16, 2014

I still walked about 10 miles today, but it was mostly at the Speed of Dog. I have been clocking 15-20 miles a day, so 10 miles IS taking it easy... for me. It seems to me that it is all a matter of perspective. When I started this journey 3 years ago half a mile was amazing. Now, 10 miles is a lazy day. Nothing much has changed... except my perspective.

For some reason my scale says I gained a bunch of weight overnight. I am betting on a sodium overload from the past couple days. I know I haven't overeaten by THAT much! Speaking of food, Tigan and I bought snack food today to take on the train with us, in case we get hungry between meals, or if what is served on the train doesn't appeal or satisfy.

We stopped at the print shop and made copies of our itinerary and important documents today. I also went to the doctor and got my prescription refilled. And we went to the thrift store. I got 4 pairs of shorts and 4 new paperbacks. Oh and we stopped at the Farm Supply store and got flashlights and headlamps.

We are fairly well prepared at this point, but there a few things we still need to acquire. That will happen Wednesday. We are driving up to Buffalo on Wednesday to hit the sporting goods stores and the malls. (We are leaving as soon as I get home from my stress test.)

I don't know if we are going kayaking tomorrow night. There is a 50% chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. We don't launch until about 7pm, so it might be fine by then. Same deal with the weather on Wednesday. (I don't know if we will be back from Buffalo in time to go kayaking on Wednesday evening.)

I like that "speed of dog". When I'm walking the pups, our usual speed is 2.2 to 2.6 mph. By myself, I can hit 3.5 on a good day.

So goofy when the numbers on the scale go up and down like that. You are so close!

Wow, 10 miles is a slow day? You are amazing. If I manage 3 miles, I am crazy
Keep it going and maybe I'll catch up, but probably not. emoticon

I can't believe you walk that far--daily! Oh my! My "Buffalo" trip was a huge success. I am pretty sure the place in Clarence is the one or us. We would be renting. That is new to me. But at my age (67) and with no help for home repairs, I think this will be best. Vinecroft is the name of the retirement community. John expressed anxiety yesterday. Before this he was placid. Actually this is a more mentally healthy response. I suggested we get Skype so he could view his family and Connecticut friends (2) while chatting to them. chris
