I'm a Warrior

Saturday, June 14, 2014

Warrior Dash 2014 is in the books! What a gorgeous day for it. Not too hot and no humidity to speak of.

The event didn't seem as organized as in previous years. I don't think they were prepared for how much this has grown. It was a long wait for packet pickup (like ridiculously long) and there were some wait times at a few obstacles.

This is the third year I did this with my son and daughter. My ex-sister-in-law decided to do it this year too. Hats off to her. Married, with two kids, she went back to school and recently graduated. She's put some weight on and does very little exercise.

We all high-fived as we took off. My kids of course were gone and I left ex-sister-in-law pretty quickly. I felt the catholic guilt I grew up with and kept slowing down to look back for her. Forget the obstacles, the pitched fields and inclines alone are challenging for someone who works out a bit, let alone someone who has not worked out in quite a while.

At the first obstacle, there was quite a line and she caught up. I got over the obstacle and went back to wait for her. She was really nervous and struggled so I stayed with her the rest of the course.

They added a couple extra obstacles, one being a slide towards the end which looked tame enough, till we slid down. I felt like I was launched from a rocket ship, let out a scream and quickly told myself to shut my mouth, close my eyes and hold my nose. SPLASHDOWN! into COLD water! Pretty awesome!

The only bad spot in the day was I lost my fitbit. I decided to wrap it in saran wrap, then into a sandwich baggie and tuck it into my snug fitting bra. I didn't realize how hard I'd hit the water coming off that slide. I'm guessing that's where I lost it.

I feel AWFUL! DH bought that for me, back in November. I didn't ask for it, never talked about it. He knew I had gone through a few pedometers in the past and one day just picked this up for me.

He's working tonight so I just ran and picked up a new one and I feel so bad about this that I'm not enthusiastic to wear it.

Besides that, it was a great day with the kids and hopefully ex-sister-in-law is feeling really proud of herself for what she accomplished today.

Forget fancy spas, this is how a mud is done...

Congratulations on completing the Warrior Dash! Sounds like it was fun. That was very sweet of you to run along side your ex-sister-in-law. I'm sure that meant a lot to her.

Doing a Warrior Dash was one of my initial motivators. I decided that I was setting myself up for injury tho. Looks like you had fun.

Sounds like a great time and a wonderful race.

Don't be to hard on yourself about the FitBit. It happens. You did everything you should have to keep it safe. It's ok.

That was so awesome of you to stay with you ex-SIL, I hope that she enjoyed it! I am kind of intimidated by those kind of races so I admire you and her for getting out there and doing it.

I am so glad that you were able to replace your FitBit. You did your best to protect it, you shouldn't feel badly! I would be completely lost without FitBit One. I've had it for a year and a half now and the only times I don't wear it are in the shower or the pool (though it did swim with me a couple of weeks ago and it survived).

Don't feel bad about that fitbit. You tried your best to protect it during the race. I lost my Spat one night. I felt lost like I had lost a friend. I am glad you immediately bought a new one.

That was a great family event and I am sure your SIL appreciated your encouragement.

I think it is so cool that you do this with your kids! I had a ton of fun last spring with my DD doing my first 5K , but since running is out of the question now with my artificial hip I wonder if I could get in shape enough to do something like this next year with her. I'll be 63 by then and there probably aren't very many "old ladies" doing this kind of challenge are there?

I've only read about those races--they are very tough. Congrats to you and your ex-SIL--although I did snicker about the Catholic comment (I grew up Catholic). So sorry about your Fitbit--have seen them around the site but not really sure what it does--if it's like my Garmin I would be so upset! Kudos and congrats for finishing, sounds like a wild time!

Congratulations, and wtg for staying with your friend, aka ex-sister-in-law. Just because we are no longer related doesn't mean we can't be friends!

Also, I think everyone loses at least one Fitbit before they learn to always double-check it! I keep mine clipped to my undies and I bet I feel for it 100 times a day, especially before/after using the bathroom.

Congrats again on completing the challenge!!
