Salmon? Really?

Wednesday, June 11, 2014

Everyone I know tells me to eat fresh Salmon once a week for it's health benefits.

That's great, except... I really don't like it. Usually, if I put it on my plate, it's too dry.

I am going to buy some this weekend and try grilling it.

Any suggestions?

It has to be wild and fresh for me. I put a little olive oil on the bottom of a ceramic dish (so it doesn't stick) and a big slice of lemon or orange on top of it and I put it on 350 for about 10 min and keep checking it until it's done to my liking (depends how thick it is).

It's good cold too on crackers a little squirt of lemon (a touch of mayo), some capers or even a slice of dill pickle.

I love salmon patties and is the only way I like it.
You take either canned salmon or mackerel and add crushed saltines and egg, but it is not the healthiest.

tilapia is my fish of choice. It does not taste fishy. I put lemon juice and onion and either back or fry with a tablespoon of oil and lemon juice( I put a couple of tablespoons because I like it.

Try cooking it in foil with a few seasonings and/or maybe brushing a little light mayo on it.

But if you really don't like it, don't eat it. There are other types of food out there with the same health benefits, I'm sure.

I only eat fresh salmon steamed. I think I do it for about 15 mins. If you have a steamer it's a great way to cook it, never had a dry one yet. Wrap it in foil with salt, pepper, and lots and lots of lemon juice, set timer et voila!

I think wrapping in foil if you are doing in oven will help with keeping it moist too. Grilling...never tried it so can't comment sorry!

The only Salmon I like is when my husband catches it out of Lake Michigan or my BIL gets it out of Lake Superior. It is fresh and so good. Otherwise, I don't like store bought either. My husband bakes it in the oven and puts butter and lemon and seasonings (garlic, salt and pepper) Delicious. The other way they cook it is too fattening and I don't want to corrupt
