Pants (it's all in my head)

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

Recently, I mail-ordered two pairs of pants in a smaller size. Over the course of a few days, I tried to evaluate the purchase.

First try-on: Neither of these fit right. I'll have to take them back. I can't believe I misjudged so badly; what a waste of time and money.

Second try-on: Well, the black ones are what I want. The blue jeans are still too small. Or the cut doesn't fit quite right--see those creases across the hip? They don't feel right. They'll have to go back.

Third try-on: You know, I think both pairs of these pants fit.

I said to DD, I think the problem may be all in my head. She had told me both pairs looked fine every time I tried them on. She was very polite about agreeing with my statement about the issues being all in my head. She's such a good kid.

I keep saying I want new jeans, but talk myself out of it once at the store. I don't want to know what size will fit now. We need to get out of our own heads!

Of course she's a good kid, look at her mother! Glad the pants are going to work out. I bought a swimsuit at the thrift store in a size 12. I thought it wouldn't fit, but it did fit perfectly, and I had a sister to give it a second set of eyes when I tried it on. You are fortunate that you have a daughter to help you with that. I can only imagine the snark I would get from MY daughter about clothing choices.

Difference between my fashionista sista and me:

Me: try 'em on. Do they cover the important bits? Yes? Good to go. Later, much later, after wearing them to work, or someplace out... I might evaluate "how" they fit, more from criteria such as "could I move in them?" Later, even later... I might look at myself in a mirror and decide either "day-am I look good in these" or "eh, at least they cover me."

OK, clearly I'm a fashion disaster. But THREE tries to decide if they FIT?

Apparently trying on clothes for you is a process.....a 2-3 step process.
Have fun in your new clothes.
