was yesterday and so much fun! It could be called a super sprint, as the distances for all 3 disciplines are shorter than a standard sprint, and great for first-timers, rookies building experience, or advanced triathletes using it for training or conditioning.
My daughter and I had planned to do her first Tri together. However, the prior 2 planned events had been rained out, and I am currently recovering from an injury that has kept me out of my tri season to date. So, our focus was all on her.
She was apprehensive about the open water swim, as she had not been out with my team very often at all. I took her on an OWS the weekend prior to the tri, and she did very well. It was only 50m shy of the 300m for the event, and she's a good swimmer, so she felt confident.
I had also taken her out on a hilly bike ride, and did hill repeats to prepare her for the monster hill on the 11-mile tri route. Fortunately, the worst hill was early on, and she said the monster hill didn't feel so bad. As she's already a runner and experienced marathoner, the 2-mile run was fairly easy, although it was quite humid out.
There were 2 girls at the finish line holding a ribbon for anyone coming across, and my daughter was lucky enough to to run through the ribbon when she finished. Her BF captured the moment on video, as he had the more advantageous spot.
Her dad, oldest brother with his GF and his 4-yo son, grandma, BF and running buddies (some also doing their first tri), were all there to share her accomplishment.
So, my favorite running buddy and assistant coach has finally become a triathlete and has absolutely no reason to not do a tri with me. :)
