Weekend Update

Monday, June 09, 2014

Back from another weekend. Hope you all had a great one!

On Friday I was living high on cloud 9, knowing that my commander approved my separation. It still had 2 more levels to go through and when I went home for the day there had been no movement on my application. I resisted the urge to check all weekend, but when I got to work this morning I immediately checked and the next level commander also approved my separation! Woohoo! Right now it is at my base personnel office to check and make sure my records are correct, and then it will go to the Air Force Personnel Center and the Secretary of the Air Force's personnel office. I hope it moves quickly because I want to start applying for jobs asap!

In the meantime, on Friday after work I spent about 4 hours studying and it was very productive! On Saturday morning I headed out for my long run at around 8am. Unfortunately the weather was pretty dismal. We were expecting thunderstorms all weekend long and the sky looked terrible. Also it was chilly and the wind had really picked up about 3.5 miles into my run. I decided not to test the weather and headed back home. I did a whole 6 miles versus the 10 I had planned, but I was not looking forward to getting stuck in a thunderstorm. The rain held off for another few hours, but I dont regret my decision. I did get the lawn mowed too. I also studied for about 6 hours on Saturday, and quilted the second baby quilt I had made for my friends. And I spent the evening reading a book. It was a productive day!

On Sunday I was up at 5am for absolutely no reason, but I could not fall asleep. At 7:30 I was sewing the binding on to the baby quilt and then studied for about 3 hours before deciding to do a TurboFire workout - Fire 30. I havent done that workout in probably over a year. I am feeling a bit sore in a good way today. Interestingly, I wore my heart rate monitor and my heart rate was much lower than it used to be the last time I did the workout. I suppose all of my running has really improved my cardio! Then I grocery shopped for the week. While I was at the grocery store there was a pretty bad storm and it was pouring hard. All of the customers who had purchased their groceries were just standing in teh doorway afraid to go outside. It seemed kind of ridiculous. It's only water and if you wait for it stop raining the groceries might go bad if they need to be refrigerated! Sometimes that behavior is really surprising to me. Anyway, I threw some pork chops in the slow cooker and then studied some more. I spent the evening hand sewing the other side of the binding onto the baby quilt and then packaged it up to send to my friends today! So exciting - I hope they like them!

Back at work today - not exciting. Glad my day started off well, knowing there was some movement on my application. I'm going to be stalking the website status constantly now! A friend sent me 3 versions of his resume yesterday so I would have an idea how to organize mine with my Air Force work experience so I am going to get started sometime this week on putting together my resume.

A bit of advice on your resume. The competition outside is incredibly tough. You should take no chances. Your resume is what gets you the initial interview (you're on your own after that). There are professionals that know what the current trends are outside. Spend the $$ and hire the best. It will more than pay for itself. Among other things, I was a head-hunter and saw first hand what a professionally written resume could do for you. Best of luck!!
