Here's a cute video to go along with the Simon and Garfunkel song ...

Yesterday I ran a 5K benefitting a local zoo. I did it last year for the first time and it's a just great day. It goes along with a weekend of activities in that suburb. The course runs through the residential area nearby. All the residents come out, sit in their driveways with their coffee and cheer on the runners. Babies are set up in their playpens, some kids (and adults) bang pots and pans as we run by. It was a beautiful morning and just a feel-good vibe!

Around the 2 1/2 mile mark, just ahead of me, a woman who apparently didn't get the memo, inched out of her driveway onto the street packed with runners. Nothing bad happened, the runners started moving over to the left to avoid her.

She continued to drive down the street in the middle of a swarm of runners until she got to the intersection and tried to make a left turn....with runners on all sides of her car trying to stay out of her way. One of the race volunteers yelled at her that she could not do that. That is when I passed her so not sure how she got out of there. I can only hope she had some kind of emergency to tend to otherwise why would anyone do that?!

Anyhoozer, I was not really prepared for this race. Recent vacation and work travel took it's toll but it was such a beautiful morning that I didn't care about time. At one point I came up behind a man and a little boy running together. The little boy was maybe five or six and so adorable. The man looked like an experienced runner but kept with the young boy. Now I ask you, is there a more attractive man than one encouraging I child?? I think not.

I realized just before the race began that I forgot to put my Fitbit on. ACK! Oh the steps I lost yesterday! I had to keep reminding myself to let it go. It's more important that the amount of steps I take show up on my body, not a device.

Today we are having an early Father's Day with my dad. I'm having horrible sinus issues so I'm trying to clear that up to finish cleaning and chopping veggies.

Next up, the Warrior Dash next Saturday!

Superb Sunday wishes to you all and onward with the week!

That sounds like such a fun 5K with all of the people in their driveways cheering the runners! Oh, but I would definitely have had a nervous breakdown if I had realized I didn't forget my FitBit! Did you long the time manually? Hope your allergies are getting better, they have been bad for a lot of people this year.

What a great day! You helped the zoo and got a great workout. Bummer about the Fitbit. Disappointing, but it doesn't deter from your accomplishment! emoticon

Absolutely awesome!! I'm doing the Brookfield run in September, but that on is held in the Zoo.

I love residential runs. The support is so amazing.

Enjoy your father's say and I hope you find some relief for your sinus issues.

Usually there are cops along the route of any race for just this reason. It's dangerous and no one listens to volunteers.

That sounds like a fun race! I hope your allergies are better. I also have forgotten to put my spat tracker on and tried not to lament losing all of those steps!

Hope you enjoy your next race.
