It's Been A YEAR!!

I choose to be fit and healthy and happy!

So today is my one year Sparkiversary. And what a year it has been!

I've logged over 2000 miles and achieved my goal (FINALLY) of getting my walking 5K under 45 minutes! I hovered just a few seconds above 45 until 2 weeks ago! I've just recently logged my 41,000 Fitness Minutes!

and this will forever be my motto:

I love my little boxing club that meets to spar and sweat buckets four times a week!

I love walking to the pool and swimming laps or doing water aerobics everyday the pool is open! Right now it's open 7 days a week!

and my goal was to lose 50 pounds. I am down 59 pounds from 6/6/13! I just wanted to get to my old Army 'fighting weight' where I felt fit and healthy.

I used the old Army Drill Sergeant screaming at me in my head and Darvel, my boxing coach in real life...with no excuses!

Here's a reply I wrote in September of 2013 in response to a question on one of my teams, "Why are YOU here?"
"I joined because I had heard it was a good place to track your food for free. I figured since it was anonymous I would learn how to do it and be brutally honest with myself about what I was putting in my body. It was kind of hard to learn to use the tracker but once I got some favorites and groupings in, it began to be fun and something I enjoy doing daily and often surprising how many or few calories are in what I am enjoying. I had trouble figuring out how to use the mileage tracker and how to map a route but once I got that down, it is a snap and great when another little hundred mile trophy shows up! And so many teams offered things that I was interested in or thought I would enjoy so I signed up for them and for a lot of the team goals. I have since whittled down my teams mostly because I decided it was more important to be spending time offline doing the fitness or accomplishing goals than trying to post to threads and huddle. I still subscribe to lots of blogs and read those. I saved the goals from some of the teams I left and just put them in my own Other Goals page.

So that is why I am here. To track my food, fitness and lots of other goals so I am honest with myself about how I am doing and what I am doing. But more important than Why I am Here is why I stayed. I found people who inspire me, who make me laugh, who are on the same path, struggling with the same things. I love the camaraderie. I have "met" some really wonderful people. I have surprised myself by getting back to walking (instead of running) every day. I am much better about eating what I have always known I should be eating and because I don't want to have to track it, leaving the Cheetoes and Fritoes alone. I have become a much more mindful eater. I have become a much more grateful eater. I enjoy the articles and the videos and have learned quite a bit...but mostly I stayed because of the wonderful people."

And although I've come and gone from some teams and many of the people I really liked have gone from SP, I'm still here for the people. I interact a lot less. I track my food and fitness and read the articles and spin the wheels. But I spend more time living a healthier, happier life. I am working on financial goals now through SP and also doing a big remodel on my home.
It's been a great year. Thanks to all my Spark Friends who have made the journey so much more enjoyable!

    What a great blog. You have had quite a year with many successes. It was a pleasant surprise to see you posting again. We do need an occasional vacation, don't we?

    Linda- Congratulations on your one year. I joined for the same initial reasons -- to track food for free. It took a while to accept every thing the site has to offer -- like the entire community and then the exercise/nutrition/motivation resources. You give a great deal to this community -- and I am very grateful to call you a sparkfriend and to know you here. emoticon

    Congratulations on all that you have accomplished this year and I'm delighted that you decided to hang around.

    It looks like you have a very good plan mapped out for your Spark life and I wish you well.

    Ain't the home remodeling great fun?? I've got to get my basement rehab finished this year and hopefully get a garage put up.

    Linda, remember YOU are the one who accomplished, learned and succeeded reaching your goal(s). Congrats on the 2000 fitness miles in one year. I hope the remodeling of your home comes along well! You are one of my favorite people who inspires and motivates me! I thought you were on a spark break, but you keep hanging around. I am glad you are enjoying the different activities ~ boxing, swimming and walking!
