To meet everything and everyone through stillness, #2B 2014 Trip

Tuesday, June 03, 2014

May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven around the heart of wonder.
-- John O'Donohue

I am re-posting yesterday's blog -- THE NEW AND EXPANDED VERSION WITH PHOTOS (such as they are):

But first, Eckhart Tolle's statement struck me deeply this morning, so let us begin there: "To meet everything and everyone through stillness instead of mental noise is the greatest gift you can offer to the universe." And now, one more time --

I am well into the west coast road trip, having begun May 24 from home in central Arkansas. This June 2 early Monday morning finds me ready to continue the western pull, after landing five days ago at my yoga sister Connie's amazing digs in Sandia Park, outside Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Many wonderful things have come and gone...here is the tip of the iceberg --

~ my 1984 Toyota Dolphin -- nothing automatic, nothing power, 21+ ft. cab-over home-on-wheels -- is performing admirably

~ enjoying having the intense storms do no more than nip at my heels/tires as I cruised through OK and the Panhandle of TX

~ wonderful folk who helped make the first nights of camping easeful and enjoyable

~ Palo Duro Canyon, TX where I enjoyed my first wonderful and extensive cycling experience

~ the beauty of the back roads and mostly avoiding freeways so far

~ five fun restful days at the home of artist friend and long time yoga sister, Connie, who I first met when we both lived in San Francisco and she was a clothing designer doing her art on the side (now she does her art and makes clothes [for herself] on the side)

...and this

...and this

...and this

So serendipitous that this quote of my always-hero, Joseph Campbell, greeted me on the door of Connie's guest room that I occupied

~ being a part of the commencement of the 4-day Longdance and meeting about 50 of Connie's friends who participate in this special native ritual on consecrated land with a beautiful kiva and sweatlodge

~ meeting delightful cyber-friend and sangha sister Mary, who lives in Santa Fe; she invited me into her home for a night and we enjoyed communing while I got the "cook's tour" of Santa Fe (I forgot my camera on Saturday, but have a few shots of Sunday)

Lovely Mary in the garden of Harry' Roadhouse

What a wonderful breakfast we had here!

Here we are at breakfast

Mary's sweet Santa Fe home

~ rendezvousing with Connie for lunch and to experience the wonderful soul/gospel group Zenobia Sunday afternoon in Santa Fe

Cowgirl BBQ, Santa Fe

Zenobia and group performing with happy customers dancing

~ enjoying the Georgia O'Keefe Museum before leaving Santa Fe

Permanent O'Keefe collection, plus an exhibit of O'Keefe's and Ansel Andams' amazing Hawaii work. We were allowed to take non-flash photos in the permanent collection section, and here are three --

On our way back to Connie's as we left Santa Fe, I spotted the wonderful Shrine to the Virgin of Guadalupe (sadly the position of the afternnon sun covered the frontal shot in shadows)

~ relishing ice cream on a hot Sunday afternoon at the Jezebel Gallery and Soda Fountain in Madrid (MA-drid, like the "ma" in man) as we returned to Connie's

~ loving the lights and shadows of this part of New Mexico

Now to pack (and try hard not to leave a trail of forgotten things) and continue my journey on the back roads toward Arizona and then California.

FEELINGS

Dry and humid
(New Mexico and Arkansas)

Level and lopsided
(The parked camper)

Hot and cold
(New Mexico sun and dry ice)

Pain and pleasure
(My achy body and joyful heart)

Confusion and understanding
(Words and maps).

I continue to experience
joy and its opposites.

In equal portions?
Not a chance --

I bathe in joy,
but I don't shun its opposite.

I encourage hope
but I recognize despair.

And mostly,
I enjoy the light, bright state
of Beingness in the
Here and the Now.

You are visiting a beautiful part of the country. As you drive through Arizona on your way to California be sure to see some of the treasures in that state as well: the red rocks of Sedona and the majestic Grand Canyon.
Your journey sounds wonderful - as you are visiting interesting places while connecting with friends along the way.

    My dear Maha -

Palo Duro Canyon is one of my favorite special places. You saw a picture of it on my FB page long ago. My dear friend, Barbara, lives close by. If I had known you were going there, I would have hooked you up!! She could have taken you on an awesome hike as she knows the Canyon well.

AND the Georgia O'Keefe museum is one of the places Beth and I visited on a 2010 out-of-town trip with two friends to Amarillo/Las Cruces/Albuquerque/Santa Fe/Taos/Colorado Springs. It was the next-to-the-last trip we took out of town together!!

Your blog brings back SO many memories (and tears) ... safe travels, my friend.

Much love,
Stephanie

"To meet everything and everyone through stillness instead of mental noise is the greatest gift you can offer to the universe."

That so sums up a great conversation I had with Juan just now about boundaries in dating! Lol. Meet everyone with a fresh mind!

Love you and so happy to see what you're seeing through your eyes!
